A Football Manager 2015 Story

The Story of Alan Pardew

View attachment 318094

Alan Scott Pardew (Born 18/7/1961) is an English Football Manager and Former Professional-Player who is currently the Manager of Newcastle United, a post he has held since 2010.

Pardew started his playing career at Whyteleafe in 1980 which was just the start of a long career in which Pardew spent time playing for clubs such as Crystal Palace and Charlton before ending his career at Reading in 1998.

Managerial Career

View attachment 318099

Despite retiring as a player at Reading, Pardew then went on to manage them in 1999, a post he held for 4 years before resigning in 2003 to speak to West Ham United.

View attachment 318098

Alan Pardew was appointed as West Ham United's manager early into the 2003-04 season, a season in which he led West Ham to the play-off Final before falling to defeat to one of his former clubs, Crystal Palace. The following season saw Pardew win promotion to the top flight of English Football by beating Preston North End in the play-off Final.

During his first year of managing in the Premier League Pardew guided his newly promoted West Ham to a 9th placed finish, a fantastic season which also saw United make it to the Millenium Stadium where they took on Liverpool in the FA Cup Final, the match ended in a 3-3 draw but saw Liverpool claim the trophy following a Penalty Shoot-out, the 2nd FA Cup Final defeat of Pardew's career.

Following a poor season in 2006 in which West Ham went on their worst ever run of defeats, Pardew was sacked from his position following a 4-0 loss to Bolton on the 11th December 2006.

View attachment 318097

Pardew's absence from Football lasted just two weeks before he was hired by a club he formerly played for, Charlton Athletic. At the time of the hiring Charlton were sitting in 19th and despite the improved form under Pardew he was unable to keep them up, and they were relegated.

Despite a high expectation to return at the first time of asking, Pardew only managed to guide Charlton to an 11th placed finish the 2007-08 season, and despite an impressive start in the 2008-09 season Charlton's form quickly deteriorated resulting in the club laying just a-foot of the relegation placed and with fans expressing their concerns Pardew parted company with the Addicks by mutual consent.

View attachment 731419

Pardew was named the manager of Southampton during the early hours of the day on 17th July, 2009. He made many signings during his first season including those of Lee Barnard and Rickie Lambert and despite their initial 10-point deduction Pardew almost led the Saints to a play-off place, a challenge that was very alive until the final two matches.

Pardew also managed to win the Football League Trophy in 2010 following a 4-1 win against Carlisle United, their first trophy since 1976. But despite his impressive season, Pardew was dismissed by the club amidst reports of low staff morale and conflicts between Pardew and the Saints' Chairman, Nicola Cortese.

View attachment 731400

On the 9th December, 2010 Pardew was named as the new manager of Newcastle United following the controversial sacking of Chris Hughton, a post he still holds to this day.

Pardew has constantly come under scrutiny from the Geordie fan-base due to his lack of creativity in the management role with Pardew often looking to scrape out results in un-pleasing manners.

Despite the lack of backing for the English manager, Pardew did manage to guide Newcastle to a 5th placed finish in 2012 with key signings such as Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse firing the club to European Qualification. Pardew also claimed the Premier League and LMA Manager of the Year awards for his achievements throughout this season and signed a new 8-year extension at the club.

View attachment 318100

However with Newcastle struggling again in recent years to find the success that they achieved during the 2012 season Pardew has come under increasing pressure from the fans again as they have become aggravated at Pardew's poor performances in the past 2 seasons, is the 2nd longest serving Premier League Manager set to leave the club?

Pardew Steps Down as Newcastle Manager!

View attachment 731429

That's right, it's currently the 11th of July, 2014 and Alan Pardew has called an immediate press conference to announce his resignation from the Magpies.

"What can I say? It's been a hectic couple of years here at Newcastle, ever since our 5th placed finish in 2012 we haven't really been able to expand as a club and have failed to repeat that past success, and after trying to find a solution for the past 2 seasons I feel the pressure has gotten to me and I can sense the fans frustration."

"I've been trying my best to concentrate on the task at hand but after lots of investment and energy I feel drained, and with no signs of success on the horizon I don't think I can take this magnificent club any further than I already have, with the need for money in the modern game I'm finding it increasingly difficult to match the Liverpool's, the Arsenal's and the Chelsea's and that's why I have decided to step down as the Manager of Newcastle United, I need time to recoup. I need to be with my family."

"The last thing I have to say is that I have loved every minute of my time here at this wonderful club and I know deep in my heart that I will miss being here 100%, but I wish the very best to the new manager, he's got a wonderfully talented squad and I don't see why this club can't reach the very top."

For inspiration behind the layout/presentation I have to credit 'Brendn', read about his fantastic save here:

The Vacancy at St. James' Park

English Football currently has a very attractive vacancy on the cards as they look to hire a new Manager to replace the out-going Alan Pardew. Newcastle United are a big club who have had a lot of success during the 90s and early 00s and with a large fan base it's a beautiful club with a lot of tradition, and despite having not won a major trophy since 1969 Newcastle United are still seen as a big club in England.

View attachment 318078

Newcastle United play at St. James' Park, a stadium which was opened in 1892 when the Club was founded, it currently has a capacity of 52,405 making it one of the biggest stadiums in English Football.

View attachment 318080

As an ambitious club with aspirations of European football, the objective of Newcastle's Academy is to develop players and their football-playing abilities to their fullest potential, so that these players might someday contribute to Newcastle's success on the pitch. This is made possible by guaranteeing the best training, education and management to the region’s most promising players. Newcastle is among those teams that run an Academy for their youth players without actually having their own youth training facility. This means that the youth teams practice at different locations, in facilities rented from universities or from the city. However, they are in the process of building their own purpose-built Academy.

Although Newcastle United have not developed too many Legends due to the fact that they don't have a recognised academy, the clubs future does look bright with the development of Paul Dummett and Ronaldo Aarons, youth development is certainly on the agenda at Newcastle United.

With Mike Ashley having called a press conference to unveil the new Manager of Newcasle United the nation will certainly be looking on, eager to see who is set to take the helm at St. James' Park.

The Unveiling

View attachment 318074

Mike Ashley, surrounded by reporters as he makes his way into the press conference room ahead of the unveiling.

"I'm here today as you know, to unveil the new Manager of Newcastle United, but before I do that I will first take the time to answer any questions you may have regarding the issue."

Questions:

Reporter: "Alan Pardew's resignation from Newcastle was a very sudden announcement, were you taken back by his decision to step-down as Manager?"

M.Ashley: "As you know I had a very good working relationship with Alan and he will be missed servely by the club, however we always prepare for such a situation and have spent a lot of time ensuring that we make the right call going forwards."

Reporter: "Is the new Manager a well known name throughout the Footballing world?"

M.Ashley: "I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the announcement as the person we have chosen to lead the club is a person who has worked his way through Football by being an under-study to one of the greatest managers around at this current time. But no, I wouldn't say he's well known, not by all."

Reporter: "Is there a risk of this decision turning sour?"

M.Ashley: "There is a risk to every decision in Football, signings, hirings and firings all require for us to weigh up the pros and cons before making a decision and I believe that this decision certainly has more positives, thus was my decision to hire this man."

Mike Ashley then addressed the room.
"Now, I would like to unveil to you all the new Manager of Newcastle United, Paul Clement."

View attachment 318071

Paul Clement - During his PSG days.

M.Ashley:
"
Paul has enjoyed a very successful coaching career since starting to study the coaching side of the game at the age of 23, he began by studying at Chelsea's center of excellence while working as a PE teacher and has not looked back since, he has worked as an under-study to Carlo Ancelotti for the past few years and has certainly gained some great insight into how some of the biggest clubs on the planet function behind closed doors, it's only fair he gets his shot at management."

The Squad

View attachment 318066

Not much to report on the squad, as most of you know Newcastle have a squad with some good potential, I'll be keeping my eyes on the squad over the next few weeks to get a feel of how I want us to play here at Newcastle United.

We have a very good squad at our disposal here at Newcastle and I don't feel that any major transfers are needed in order for us to compete with our expectations.

well i liked it love to see some 1 take a small club and make them 1 of the big boys

I really enjoyed it too but after 2 seasons of mid-table finishes it was beginning to get quite tedious, I'll keep the save and go back to it at some point. :)

Training:

View attachment 318037

Today I arrived at Darsley Park to take charge of my first training session at Newcastle United, this was a great opportunity to assess the players and see who would be featuring in my plans.

I've noticed that we have a very good squad here at Newcastle, well rounded with both experienced heads and young talent.

Players like Coloccini, Williamson and Ryan Taylor are the oldest players we have here at the club having just reached their thirties, and knowing their best days are behind them it's up to these players to help mentor the young guns, help Newcastle discover it's next lot of talent.

View attachment 318031

We also have a lot of young talent here at Newcastle, the likes of summer addition Ayoze Perez, Haidara and academy product Paul Dummett all look set to play roles this season as we look to promote the young talent at the club.

View attachment 318029

I'm very pleased to see that we have a fantastic goalkeeper at the club, 26 year old Dutch keeper Tim Krul is a very strong goalkeeper with great command of his area. Krul is also a very agile goalkeeper with great aerial ability meaning he can come and claim those crosses/corners while his reflexes help play a big part as he is able to stop one-on-ones by spreading himself quickly and effectively.

View attachment 318027

One of Krul's only downsides is his poor decision making and handling meaning he may spill one or two shots, maybe parrying the ball to an opponent, something I will certainly looking for him to improve on over the course of the season.

Fixtures

View attachment 318012

For our pre-season we begin with an inter-squad Friendly against our Under 21's, this gives me a chance to evaluate both squads at once while keeping an eye on specific players before we travel away.

We then travel to Germany to take on 3 German sides for our pre-season tour before returning to the North-East to take on affiliated club, Gateshead.

Barclays Premier League Fixture Schedule 2014/15

View attachment 318009

Apologies if the picture isn't very clear but here is a picture showing the fixtures we'll be playing throughout the 2014/15 Premier League season.

We begin the season at home to Leicester before travelling away to face Manchester City, and end the season with a home game against Burnley.

There are a couple of patches where we have to play a few tough games in a row, such as in December where we face Liverpool and Chelsea back to back.

View attachment 318008

We have an even tougher section later on in the season as the fixtures computer took no mercy on us by presenting us with games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal consecutively.

View attachment 318007

It's certainly going to be an interesting season and with a media prediction of 8th place I hope we can make St. James' Park a fortress.

Inter-Squad Friendly

View attachment 317989View attachment 317987
Before our German training-camp we played our Under 21's side in a match where I looked to evaluate and analyse the squad we have here at Newcastle.

View attachment 317985

In the end the senior squad took the victory with a 3-0 scoreline, I decided to give Riviere a chance as I'm unsure as to whether or not he'll feature this year but to my surprise he picked up two goals, a very impressive performance from the young Frenchman.

Virjil van Dijk (CB)

Celtic -> Newcastle - £5.5m

With our squad lacking depth in the central defensive area I decided to make a move for van Dijk, a Central Defender currently playing for Celtic in Scotland. With Yanga-Mbiwa out on loan at Roma we need a young powerful defender to come in and bolster the defence and I believe van Dijk is more than capable of being that player.

View attachment 317983

van Dijk has very rounded stats for such a young player and while he may be lacking on the marking side of play I thoroughly believe that with the right training he will blossom here at St. James' Park.

Pre-Season Tour of Germany
View attachment 731722
Following our inter-squad Friendly we packed up our bags and flew out to Germany where we would spend a couple of weeks in hopes of building squad harmony and morale.

Our tour of Germany went well but was by no means totally successful, but we avoided defeat and I felt the players got a lot out of spending time together.

View attachment 317977View attachment 317976

Our first match against Lotte ended in a 2-2 draw where we fought from behind twice to level the match, I was impressed with the fighting spirit but disappointed at our defending, Sammy Ameobi had a fantastic match and with a potentially big season ahead of him I hope he can continue this form into our competitive matches.

View attachment 317973View attachment 317972

We managed to win the second match of our German tour with a 1-0 victory over Illertissen with Riviere bagging his 3rd goal of the pre-season, a very impressive performance from the young man with Sammy Ameobi also impressing.

View attachment 317970View attachment 317969

Our final match of our tour of Germany saw us take on Zwickau, a game in which we took a 1-0 victory with Spanish youngster Ayoze Perez bagging the only goal of the game, despite the scoreline we were fantastic in this game and deserved to win by a bigger margin, but we failed to take our chances.

Time to fly back to England where we will conclude our pre-season.

The Return to England

View attachment 317968View attachment 317967

After returning from our tour of Germany we faced Gateshead in our final pre-season match, a game in which we managed a comfortable 5-1 win over our Vanarama Conference counter-parts.

Goals came from 5 different scorers as Obertan, Abeid and Ayoze Perez all found themselves on the scoresheet, Gateshead also managed to put the ball past their own Keeper in what proved to be a very troublesome day for them. Riviere scored his 4th goal of the pre-season which I am very impressed with, he's been fantastic in the Friendly matches and with Cisse out injured may surely get a start in our season opener.

Injury List

Following our game against Gateshead I went and spoke to Head Physio Derek Wright for an update on our injured players, currently we have 3 players with injuries.

View attachment 317966

Cheick Tioté is currently suffering from a pulled hamstring but should be back in time for the match against Leicester along with Siem De Jong who also looks set to return for the start of our league campaign.

However Papiss Cissé will miss the first month of the season with a damaged knee-cap as he looks set for 3-6 weeks on the sideline, but with Riviere's impressive pre-season form I believe he can fight for a place in the first-team.

Squad Numbers

Ahead of the new season here are the kit numbers that have been assigned to our players, new signing Virgil van Dijk opting for the #5 shirt.
