Breaking News!

Atletico Madrid officials have confirmed that Abel Resino has been sacked as manager at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Last season, Resino took over from also previously sacker Javier Aguirre, who was seventh in the table with Madrid's 'second' team at the time of his departure, and led the side to fourth. This means whoever the new manager is, they will be playing in the Play-Off Round of the Champions League. The odds on favourite for the job is Benfica's Quique Sanchez Flores.

Paddy Power's Odds for the next At. Madrid boss:
Quique Sanchez Flores - Benfica - 2/1 (Odds on)
Unai Emery - Valencia - 3/1
Juande Ramos - 3/1
Manuel Pellegrini - Villareal - 5/1
Sven-Goran Eriksson - 10/1

Atletico hire Manager!

Atletico Madrid have confirmed they have signed former Celtic and Scotland international Peter Smith as new manager. He replaces Abel Resino as the man to take Los Rojiblancos forward. He insisted he was delighted to be here and that the fans could look forward to a few new faces coming in. He left it at that and it was later confirmed that he had organised a closed-door match between the first team and the reserves for tomorrow night. Reports say Atletico are in the market for a right-back, and Nancy's Mikhael Chretien and Rennes' Rod Fanni could be on the way to the Spanish capital.

August

It has been a great summer for Atletico Madrid fans. A new manager, a host of new faces (and some familiar ones leaving) and guaranteed Champions League football. Some great pre-season results were followed by stunning wins over Stuttgart (3-2 away and 5-0 home) as well as a 3-0 victory against Villareal to send them to the top of La Liga.

"Of course, it's still early in the season," says Atletico boss Peter Smith. "but it was a fantastic result against a side we are evenly matched with, so if things keep going well then, who knows, perhaps a title challenge isn't that far fetched."

"The 4-1-2-1-2 (or 4-4-2 diamond) has worked wonders. It took Villareal and Stuttgart apart and I hope that stays that way all season."

"We've made a few new signings and they've done well. Rod Fanni has been a rock defensively for us, while Hatem ben Arfa has only played once but played well."

"The results we've had so far have been outstanding. Both friendly and competitive results have shown how well the tactic has worked with the players so far."

"The two best games were the home game with Stuttgart and the Villareal game. We handled a slender lead over Stuttgart very well, while we dominated a Villareal side similar to ours."

"Our league position is good, despite the fact there's only been one game. We play Tenerife next and we should win that and the next one against Xerez, so the win over Villareal really was a good one, even this early in the year."

Oh, almost forgot. Our UEFA Champions League group is as follows:

Chelsea FC (ENG)
AZ Alkmaar (NED)
Atletico Madrid (ESP)

FC Copenhagen (DAN)

Should be interesting. Wonder how Santonocito will develop. Good luck :)

Sorry going off-topic, but how do you put the club logos instead of their kits in the match overview screen?

When I used my brother's laptop, the kits came up, but on this desktop the logos show. Maybe it's in the Preferences at the start...
