…the last time I scored from a corner.

On FM15, my players seem hopeless at scoring from corners. I've tried all sorts of setups, near post flick ons, pinging it to the edge to lurking players. Nothing. I get so many corners and it seems a waste.

Do any of you want to share your ideas for creating a largely successful corner setup?

In my mind I am imagining at the end of this, we'll have merged all kinds of ideas to come up with the perfect corner setup which works more often than not. I guess I am just optimistic.

Thanks.

Hi,

One of the best corner sets it's the following:

put the full backs for corner taker, and give a feedback

I use the exact same set-up except my DCL is set to 'Attack Far Post' and my DM is set to 'Default', I've been reasonably successful with it. You won't score every game but it's the best set-up I've used for FM15 and once again make sure your ST is taking the corners.

Why is it so important that the striker takes the corner? Can't it be any of the players with default setting?

The strikers just the least important person in the set-up.

And why is that? The striker is as important as any other player with the same setting (in this case default), right?
Lets imagine that my AML is a better corner taker, will it make it any difference? They are both in default position.

Honestly I have no idea mate. The set-up is from Zero Sea's tactics and he recommends having your striker as the taker so that's who I use, you could try your AML but I had success using my striker and as it's just a short pass I doubt it matters that his corner stats aren't that good if that's the case.

What a bizarre discussion.... There's no way that forcing a striker take corners makes any difference, and its going to be really counter-productive for a target man type. And the magic set-up is: far post, challenge keeper, lurk & all the rest default? For short corners?? Come on guys, at least think about this...

Now, I don't have the perfect set-up either, but have got a few goals out of a fairly basic set up of: Aim six yard area; top three jumping/heading players on near post, keeper & far post; one attack ball from deep; one lurker (long shots & general creative abilities preferred). If the opposition station someone on 'zonally mark six yard box' (useful for defending corners, esp. near post) - you will see that they intercept most near post deliveries - then try crossing to far post instead.

Still open to new suggestions though...

I didn't understand the Striker method either. I find it extremely peculiar how they've made it so complicated to set-up a corner. In real life, if you had 3/4 tall players in the box, and your corner taker lands one on the penalty spot, you'll get a goal at least 1 in 20 corners. I literally cannot find the back of the net from them. Madness!

I'm trying to find a "normal" successul setup. All those short corner setups are highly effective, but it just feels so **** irrealistic that I refuse to use it! There’s no way a team in real life would leave unmarked that lone receiver like 5 times in one match… :P

I can seem to make set-ups that can get my players head to the ball, they just seem incapable of getting it in! However, i never concede from them either, maybe its not the worst thing in the world removing goals from corners- makes the game unrealistic, although.

You need to read this:
Why the Goal Value of Corners Is (Almost) Nil: Evidence From the EPL
Across the big leagues, the correlation between corners and goals is essentially 0 (it's strongest in the EPL at .06, and weakest in Serie A and La Liga at less than .01)

To sum up: with the EPL as a base for this study, a team has an average of 210 corners in the total 38 league matches. At the end of season they will have an average of 4 goals scored from corners... My friends realism is: Not score from corners!

I won't lie, this surprises me. However like you said it is an average, so teams with huge, physical players, such as Chelsea and Stoke, will score more goals from corners. My opinion only of course- but if I had a team with monsters of players, I don't think the corner:goal ratio will do them justice.

At the moment I would be more than happy with 4 goals a season from corners though haha!
