*** THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A PLUG'N'PLAY, M.E MUNCHING, SUPER TACTIC ***

This is my first attempt at creating, and posting a tactic.
Being the ********* I am, I chose the impossible.

My intention was to try and recreate Dunga's Brazilian formation, that pundits struggled to describe.
Some called if a 4-2-3-1 ... others called it a 4-4-2 Diamond ... but it wasn't your typical, symmetrical tactic that could be pigeon-holed.

Excellent article on it here: Analysing Brazil’s fluid system at close quarters

... and also here: The Question: How is Brazil's 4-2-3-1 different from a European 4-2-3-1? | Jonathan Wilson - The Guardian

So it could setup like a 4-4-2 Diamond

... or 3-3-3-1

After MANY, MANY attempts, hours, and tantrums, I finally have my team looking like this;

The above screenshots were all taken from the same game, within 3-5 minutes of each other, so it truly is a 'fluid' system.

To be 'true' to the Dunga tactic it needed;
  • 2 x Holding Midfielders.
  • Diamond Midfield.
  • 1 x Midfielder who both formed part of the Diamond, but also had a secondary role as a right wing.
  • 1 x Holding Midfielder who formed part of the Diamond, but also had a secondary role as part of a back 3.
  • To play a patient, counter attack style, but with enough 'Brazilian flair' to keep the fans entertained.

oO)

It is still a work in progress, but its back has been broken, and for those looking to play the "Brazilian way", maybe you might enjoy this.

It's not perfect.
It's not a Match Engine destroyer.
It won't suit every team.

It was just an attempt to recreate a beautiful, fluid piece of tactical art.

Enjoy.

Dunga 2010

Next project ... the best team never to win the World Cup ... Santana's Brazil from 1982.

results? training ? ois ?

Some perspective ...

I'm on a long term save; about 8 seasons at the club so far.
It's 2026. I'm lucky to have built a QUALITY squad, mostly regens now.

I got bored using the M.E. busting tactics, so decided to try building this.

So - back to your question.

Results? ... impressive, but then again, with the players I have, it should be!
As I said in the OP, this is NOT a plug'n'play tactic.
I wanted some entertaining football to watch.

I also have 3 tactics that I choose from, depending on need.

TFF's awesome Armageddon v3, which has been my 'go to' tactic for about 3 seasons now.
This Dunga's Brazil homage, and also a Santana's 1982 Brazil recreation I'm working on.

Those 3 have delivered this so far;

But again, a LOT of the tactic tweaking was NOT done in this long term save.
Most of the donkey work was done in FM Classic, with no real saves ... just tweaking, watching, adjusting, etc, etc ... then once I was happy with it, I bought it into the career game, when only minor adjustments were required.

It will not suit most teams, because the positions are fairly specialised.
For example, you're not going to get a lot of Lower League teams with a midfielder who is rated a 'Natural' in 4 positions, and is perfect for a Wide Playmaker role.

Meet 24yr old regen, Milan Petosevic ...

OI's? ... I just winged it, to be honest.
No amazing science behind it. Not even a credible theory ... just set what felt right, and haven't touched it since.
I'm sure there are better OI settings, and if someone wants to tweak it, and offer improvements ... GO FOR IT!

Training? ...

General Training - left it to The *** Man.

Individual Training - New Positions and Specific Roles, as and where required ... then once the team had all positions and roles covered, left all training to The *** Man.

ok thanks . i try 4 games without oi and not bad 3 wins and 1 lost .

yes ,at 5 game i lost again i need put oi . i think its need a very good team to play this tatic

When santana's brazil 1982 will ne on test ?

Thanks

It's proving incredibly difficult to replicate :(

That team was never about the formation or PI's.
The magic came from the individual and collective brilliance of a 'once in a lifetime' dream team.

Style of Play vs. Flair

Hard to replicate as all your attacking players will need complete creative freedom and extremely high levels of flair. So I dunno if it's a tactic or style of play or just individual brilliance.

Exactly!

I guess you can build a tactic that provides the closest 'environment' for Brazil 1982 ... but without the players to add their magic, I'm not sure it could ever truly recreate it.

The only thing I would say is those tactics which have tried to mimic it, with a 4-2-2-2 formation, are not accurate.
This focuses the attention on a supposed 'box midfield' ... but when you watch the '82 side, there was nothing 'box' about it.
Besides ... Eder was a straight out left winger.

An enigma, but a fun one to try and capture. :)
