WELCOME

So my copy of FM15 arrived and it took me all of 2 seconds to decide who I was going to be first lol. As ever I will be Athletic Bilbao to try and recreate past FM glories and build a Basque dynasty. This time I will be myself and not the god that is/was Aitor Herrera.

ATHLETIC BILBAO - THE PAST

Along with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Athletic are the only side never to have been relegated from the top division. They have won the title 8 times and the Copa del Rey 24 times. They have the record for the biggest win in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey and they have the biggest away wins at both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Telmo Zarra is the La Liga's record scorer (until Messi overtakes him soon) with 252 goals, the Copa del Rey (81 goals) and is the only player to be top scorer 6 times. The award for the top scorer in La Liga is named after him.

Previous managers include Howard Kendall, Jupp Heynckes, Luis Fernandez, Marcelo Bielsa and Javier Clemente while former players are Javi Martinez, Fernando Llorente, Joseba Etxeberria, Ander Herrera, Julen Guerrero and Andoni Zubizarreta.

The club's most fiercest rivals is Real Sociedad while Osasuna are also a rival club.

ATHLETIC BILBAO - THE PRESENT

The squad this season is significantly weaker than previous seasons. In recent years Javi Martinez, Llorente and Herrera have all left and due to the signing policy of only signing Basque players there is a lack of world class players.

That being said they do have top notch youngsters in Iker Muniain and Aymeric Laporte while there is quality in midfield in the shape and form of Benat, Ander Iturraspe and Markel Susaeta.

As for the stadium - they moved into the new San Mames stadium last season and with a capacity of over 53,000 and over 44,000 season tickets there is a strong following.

ATHLETIC BILBAO - THE FUTURE

This is where I come in. As ever the aim is to have a title winning side by the 5th season. It is a long haul but once I find some decent youngsters and bring them through then the good times happen.

Also as the first team gets stronger so does the B team and I would like them to be a force in the Liga Adelante in a few years time.

Obviously trying to find Aitor Herrera's successor is a must!!!!

TRANSFER POLICY

As you most probably know Athletic Bilbao limit themselves to only signing players with a Basque heritage. This means that I can only sign those players plus Spaniards aged 16 or younger. Some Basque players out there are former players Llorente, Javi Martinez and Ander Herrera while Cesar Azpilicueta, Mikel Arteta, Antoine Griezmann, Raul Garcia, Diego Forlan and Natxo Monreal are also Basque.

Gonzalo Higuain has Basque heritage but alas does not have that nationality.

Looking at the reactions of everyone else I can see that you must have made quite an impression in the past so I will definately start following this, good luck!

PRE-SEASON & AUGUST

So I arrive at the club and immediately make changes to my backroom staff as I appoint Rodolfo Borrell as my new Head of Youth Development, Antonio Fernandez as Director of Football and Rene Meulensteen comes in as a coach amongst others.

I was massively disappointed with the transfer budget as I only have $2.5m despite the club selling Ander Herrera for $32m in the summer. Leaving the club was Carlos Gurpegi to Villarreal for $325,000.

Ander Iturraspe was attracting interest from PSG but after rejecting a $20m bid and falling out with the player it appears that he is happy again thankfully.

As yet I have not signed anyone!!!!!

UEFA Champions League Best Placed Playoff 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao 5 (Susaeta 2, Ibai Gomez 24, Iraola 26, Rico 50, Aduriz 87)
FC Porto 3 (Martinez 17, Martins Indi 33, Rolando 35)

The 3 away goals is a worry but overall I am happy with my first game in charge - especially since we played the last 20min with 10 men.

--

Malaga 3 (Juanmi 50, Santa Cruz 70, 87)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Muniain 8, 45, Aduriz 46, Moran 53)

We kick off the league campaign with a victory and another goal-laden game.

--

UEFA Champions League Best Placed Playoff 2nd Leg

FC Porto 4 (Brahimi 2, Martinez 21, 27, 36)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Susaeta 42, Iturraspe 68, Muniain 86)
(Athletic Bilbao win 8-7 on aggregate)

Goals galore once again as we came back from 4-0 down to sneak through on aggregate.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Aduriz 24, Muniain 64, Moran 90)
Levante 2 (Ruben Garcia 16, Rafael Martins 89)

Another thrilling encounter which was won by Erik Moran's stunning long range effort in stoppage time.

SUMMARY

An entertaining start to my career in FM15 and Athletic Bilbao was had as we scored 15 goals in 4 games. I wasnt sure where my team stood before the start of the season. I thought Porto would be toough opponents and in the league I think we should be battling it out with Valencia for 4th spot.

In the Champions League we have been drawn in a tough group alongside Arsenal, Olympiakos and AS Monaco. It will be hard to qualify for the next stage but we shall try our best.

Best thing about a new FM game coming out is the Bilbao story from you! Here's to a brilliant read!

Great start mate, hope you have similar succeses as previous FM's. Will you be sharing your tactics? :D

Good luck with this mate! will follow this no doubt about it and a great start to the season!

I accidentally deleted the save when i got rid of BETA and installed the new one. Will start a new one up here.

Not a good start!!!

Oops, i nearly had my save destroyed as well, daughter turned my laptop off mid save. Thank god for back ups! :-\

Was looking fwd to your story. Plus,as you know quite a bit about bilbao,i was gonna ask what u thought if iturraspe? Im doing an arsenal save and can buy him. He looks quite handy!
