Bath City - A Story With a Twist
Prologue
Through almost all of Bath City FC's history there has been trouble with money and in recent years these problems have gotten worse as the club struggles to keep up with costs. One of the biggest cost issues is the ground, Twerton Park or, as it is now known, The Mayday Trust Park (it was renamed after a community lottery auction gave the winners the rights to rename it). The ground was built in 1909 and it hasn't been improved to any real extent since then and so is obviously a bit of an antique. Like many antiques, Twerton Park needs a large amount of maintenance and is somewhat of a money-sucking-pit. The year on year losses has led the club closer and closer to the brink of liquidation and towards the end of this season just finished (14/15) a decision was made that a change in ownership was needed. Now in real life, this change of ownership is attempting to go ahead through a community bid - through fans and investors buying shares and funding the club in that way - (http://www.bigbathcitybid.org.uk/team.html). However, my idea for a story is going to take this down a different route.
The Idea
As you may well have seen, many Chairman games have been ran in this years version of FM, with some being successful and some not, and this story is going to follow a similar format. Probably Bath's most famous supporter, British Film-director, Ken Loach, who is at nearly every home game, will be going into a partnership with one of, if not the most, famous inventor/businessman to come from Bath, James Dyson (Dyson hoovers). I will write the story from their points of view and as neither have a background in football
they (I) will be letting the manager in charge make the decisions that will either see the team rise or flop! In regards to finances, they will be taking over the club and immediately injecting their wealth in an attempt to see Bath rise through the leagues at speed. I will be using the ingame editor to sack the manager if needs be and I may limit myself to signing one (realistic) player per season, but it would be good to know your thoughts on that to see if you think I should just keep it completely in the manager's hands.
More information to follow on a surprise change of manager, a host of summer signings and the first months results! Stay tuned.
PS, is this something that people may find interesting to follow?
