I tend to play 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-2-1 and have a perfect home record as well as doing well against poor/mediocre sides away, still unable to find a strong tactic for away games against top opposition. Any recommendations?

You almost have to counter. I usually adjust my main tactic. Change attacking wing backs to full backs, maybe a roaming playmaker to a deep lying one, and then I switch to counter and take press higher, pass shorter, close down more, be more expressive and roam from positions off.

The key is think like an underdog.
