GIMP 2 is a good image editor, open office is very good, Basically MS office but open source, and therefore free. Linux is a good free operating system.

There are too many to mention but i do love emulators like Project 64, Visualboy Advance, NO$GBA, etc although the roms are illegal to download unless you own a physical copy of the game which i always do
