After Blackpool were relegated from the Premier League Ian Holloway decided to step down as manager, and chairman Karl Oyston appointed George Clark to manage his club.

Clark did a lot of business in the transfer window and instantly released four players who he described as "not needed". These players were Craig Sutherland, Paul Bignot, Daniel Bogdanovic and Miguel Llera. His first signing was Heidar Helguson on loan from Q.P.R until the end of the season with an agreed price of £220K. Lazio then offered £1.8 million for Ludovic Sylvestre and the offer was too good to turn down. This departure was greeted with two new signings. Hogan Ephraim from Q.P.R for £1.2 million and Conor Devlin on a free transfer. The young goalkeeper said he hoped to learn from Matthew Gilks. Wigan made there interest in Billy Clarke public and signed him for £250K and youngsters Tom Ince and Gerardo Bruna moved out on loan to Oxford and Crewe. Diego Arismendi was signed on loan from Stoke but got injured in a friendly for 7 months. Clark then cancelled the loan. The other two August signings were Albert Rusnak for £130K from Man City and Ricardo Fuller for £1.4 million from Stoke.

The season kicked off at home to Peterborough and the result was a 1-1 draw with Chris Basham. The League Cup 1st Round saw Blackpool thrash Crewe 5-1 with Brett Ormerod netting a hat-trick along with Elliot Grandin and Gary Taylor-Fletcher scoring. The rest of the results are in the screenshot.
