Hi guys,

Im currently in my first season with Birmingham City, sitting 3rd in the Championship despite a media prediction of 18th at the start, so quite happy with that. This question is kind of unrelated to this game though as it happens to me in every game but ive never figured out why or how.

In this game for example, there are some teams I havent yet beaten despite playing them a number of times and whenever I play as Birmingham (I have had a few games with them on FM14) I can never beat them. An example being Ipswich; played 3, lost 3 (5-1, 1-0, 5-1) which is absolutely ridiculous considering theyre not even a good team. Ive played them at 3 different times of the season and so my tactics have changed each time more or less and I take everything into account like I do every other game it just doesnt seem to make sense. The last time we lost to them they ended a 12 game unbeaten run or something like that so moral was high, form was good, tactics were working and then I just get destroyed by them. Statistically we got destroyed too, I usually switch between attacking and counter depending on how the stats look but it didnt make a difference. Another one is Charlton, never seem to beat them, drew 0-0 with them twice this season but usually I lose to them. This isnt just on this game though, as I say, ive started with Birmingham about 4/5 times now and have started again for various reasons, these teams always trip me up though.

So, just wondering why it happens? I wouldntve minded any other time as I know these things happen, its the fact they are the definition of a bogey team and whilst it might happen in real life, this isnt real life and surely the AI isnt that good?

Thanks in advance.

It happens in real life also. Every team has their own bogey team.

Don't worry. I had a bogey team for two seasons playing as Middlesbrough. Regardless of whatever formation I played and the fact that I am always hot favorite to win, my team will contrive to lose Newcastle. In two seasons, I lost to Newcastle 6 times out of 7 times (3 times in league, twice in Capital Cup semis, once in FA Cup semis). The 7th time was a last gasp draw.

So, there are bogey teams... though I prefer not. I think I got rid of the jinx in my 4th season (current season) after thrashing them 3-0 at home. Was hooraying like mad even though it was an easy game. I was half-expecting Newcastle to score back 3 goals.
