Jurgen Klopp to Leave Dortmund

jurgen-klopp_27h963r2e3101qome99op9sze.jpg

Shockwaves have been sent across the Footballing World today as Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving Borussia Dortmund with immediate effect.

The 47 year old, whose contract was due to expire in 2018, won two league titles, the German Cup and guided the side to the Champions League final in 2013, during his seven years in charge, and despite rescuing what started off being a dreadful start to the season the German has stated that he no longer feels fit to take the Club forward.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today the German stated: “I always said in that moment where I believe I am not the perfect coach anymore for this extraordinary club, I will say so, I believe this is the right decision at the right time. I just wanted to make my decision known so that the club can plan for the future."

Known for his enthusiastic counter-attacking Football the German leaves behind a squad that possesses quality all over the pitch, and it is thought that whoever takes the job at Signal Iduna Park could well be fighting against a mass exodus of players trying to leave the club.

“I thank all BVB employees, especially of course our team, should give you the goodbye that you have earned."

While Dortmund refused to comment on possible successors it's believed that former Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel is amongst the favourites to take over at Die Borussen although other reports say that up and coming coach Alexander Werrett could bring a fresh lease of life to the club.

Dortmund Reveal New Manager

hans-joachim-watzke-blatter-514.jpg

Borussia Dortmund today took to the press to release a statement regarding their new Manager, the statement headed by Hans-Joachim Watzke was as follows: "It is with great pride that we today announce our new Manager, the candidate was proposed to us by several of his peers and after assessing the qualities and philosophies he can bring we believe he is the man to take the Club forward following the Klopp era. The new Manager of Borussia Dortmund is Alexander Werrett, who many know as an emerging Football Coach. However, we feel that he should be given a shot at the job regardless of his stature in the game due to the life that he can inject into the Club. Thank you for your support."

The statement was followed by the unveiling of the Manager who was met by a vivacious applause despite perhaps not being the favourite for the job. It is rumoured that Thomas Tuchel was first offered the job but decided he did not want to take the club up on the offer, prompting them to approach Mr. Werrett.

What Werrett Needs to do at Dortmund

article-2330352-0316AD8300000514-952_634x406.jpg

Having recently been appointed the new Manager of German giants Borussia Dortmund, Alexander Werrett will be prompted with some tough decisions on what needs to be done in order to bring Dortmund back to their German superiority.

Firstly, with Jurgen Klopp having left Dortmund it is believed that many of the clubs star players are linked with moves away from the club. This includes the likes of defender Mats Hummels and midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan who have both been linked with moves to Manchester United relentlessly over the past year. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been linked with a move to the BPL with Brendan Rodgers having expressed his admiration for the Gabonese forward. This will be one of Werrett's biggest tasks as he looks to keep the clubs star players while adding to the ranks with some more talent.

Jurgen Klopp was know for his free-flowing attacking Football, and while this philosophy seemed to hit Dortmund in the face last year they did manage to scrape a Champions League spot, despite a terrible start to the season. Should Werrett change the style of play at the Club he may upset supporters of the yellow wall who come to watch their team attack with flair, this means he must try to maintain the Klopp approach while perhaps strengthening the defensive core of the team.

Developing youth, this is another big part of the philosophy here at Borussia Dortmund, with the likes of Mario Goetze, Mats Hummels, Sven Bender and Nuri Sahin all having come through the famous academy. In recent years Dortmund have turned to purchasing quality as opposed to developing it, apart from the likes of Eric Durm who has recently staked his place in the team ahead of Marcel Schmelzer. This means the new manager might have the task on his hand of bringing the academy back to the forefront of the club in order to produce and develop raw German talent.

These will certainly be Werrett's main priorities as he starts life at Die Borussen, but there is much work to be done throughout the Club. The best of luck to him!

Early Changes Made at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund's new Manager Alexander Werrett has wasted no time in making changes within the Club. The Englishman has opted to make new additions to his staff room with Thomas Tuchel joining the backroom staff as the club's new offensive coach, strange to many considering his links to the Managerial vacancy only weeks ago but it's thought he is delighted to work under the new Boss.

Patrick Baier and Kurt Niedermayer also join Werrett's backroom staff with the Manager opting to add quality to the coaching that will be done both on and off the pitch.

Currently no members of staff have left the backroom.

The additions have added some quality to aspects of the club's coaching, although the attacking and goalkeeping coach roles could be strengthened. Although making too many changes could cause carnage at the club.

The Ins and Outs so far...

nkoulou1.jpg

Nicolas N'koulou has become the first signing for new Manager Alexander Werrett with the Cameroonian defender joining Die Borussen for a fee of £7.5m from French side Olympique Marseille. With Dortmund possessing plenty of quality in the final third it comes as no surprise that strengthening the defence is the priority ahead of the new season.

Dortmund fans have expressed their support for the new signing with fans eager to see their new player in action.

Werrett has wasted no time in cutting the squad with a trio of players leaving Signal Iduna Park.

Milos Jojic is the first of those to leave the club, the 23 year old Serbian had been touted as an up and coming star in previous seasons but has since found life difficult in Germany, he will be leaving Dortmund for CSKA Moscow for a fee estimated to be around the £3m mark.

Subotic-Man-Utd-gossip-517387.jpg

Controversially the Club have agreed to sell fan favourite Neven Subotic to Premier League side Liverpool FC, the defender has spent many years at the club since his arrival from Mainz back in 2008/09. However with the arrival of N'koulou it comes as no surprise that Subotic found himself on the departing list.

The final sale is Marc Hornschuh who heads to 2nd tier side for a fee of £225,000. The academy graduate has failed to live up to expectation and as such has been cut by the club for a reasonable fee.

Compensating for the Injured

scp_bvb_md12_reus_628.jpg

With some of Dortmund's biggest stars on the sidelines, Manager Alexander Werrett has had to improvise tactically with some creative and slightly unorthodox tactics. Amongst the injuries is perhaps Dortmund's biggest star Marco Reus who tore his ankle ligaments towards the back-end of last season. This means Dortmund have an obvious weakness down the left-hand side with the left-wing position lacking in depth while the small budget prevents them from strengthening. But how has this position been compensated for?

42abbc5630f47792693114f51273e053.png

That's right, due to the weakness down the left side the new Manager has decided to try his hand at implementing an asymmetric variant of a 4-3-3, Adrian Ramos, Schmelzer and Sahin will be responsible for plugging the gap down the left side while a lot of the attacking prowess will come from the right-flank with Aubameyang and Kagawa looking to exploit any gaps. It's believed that this formation will only be used until the return of their star winger, where changes will once again be made to accommodate the German International.

A Strong Pre-Season...

6d83a7a07f461b2bbd711ea2448037aa.png

Looking back, it's been a very successful pre-season. We managed to pick up victories in 6 of our 8 matches, finding the net 15 times and only picking it out of ours on 3 occasions. Sure we didn't play the strongest of teams but the points against the small teams will be just as important as those against the big teams. That's the mentality we need to have.

Nicolas N'koulou has settled in well, when he has been on the pitch he's looked comfortable on the ball, I'm sure he'll be quite the signing come the end of the season.

A few minor injuries were picked up to the likes to Ciro Immobile and Marcel Schmelzer but nothing long-term, they'll be back in no time.

Werrett Wins First Silverware

Ahead of the new Bundesliga season Borussia Dortmund today lifted the DFL-Supercup following a 1-0 victory over fierce rivals Bayern Munich in front of their faithful fans. Nuri Sahin got the only goal of the game when he converted from 12 yards after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was taken down by Jerome Boateng. The victory means Dortmund have already put behind the bad memories of last season by lifting their first piece of silverware this season, Alexander Werrett's first as a Manager.

While Bayern Munich fielded a much weakened side, Manager Pep Guardiola expressed his disappointment at the loss, citing that the team simply were not 'up to it' on the day.

Dortmund begin their competitive campaign on Sunday 17th August when they take on Bundesliga 2. side Heidenheim in the 1st round of the DFB Pokal, also known as the German Cup.

This is how Dortmund's season gets away this campaign with a tough away trip to Bayer Leverkusen to kick-off the Bundesliga season. Dortmund will then hose SC Freiburg for the first home tie of the season.

Here's a look at the DFL Super-Cup re-cap:

A close game is putting it bluntly as both teams had their chances to win the game, Neuer and Weidenfeller both pulled off some magnificent saves before Neuer was beaten from the spot. A blatant penalty and a well taken spot-kick by Nuri Sahin saw Die Borussen take the victory on the day.

A record attendance was also set as thousands of fans swarmed to see both their Club and new Manager in action for the first time. They weren't disappointed!

Amazing story mate, im usually a silent reader but this story deserves recognition. Well done.. Big fan of u!

DFB Pokal - Dortmund Progress to 2nd Round

6f260268fe4320e633f7ec2514039f56.png

Borussia Dortmund battled past Bundesliga 2. side Heidenheim to book their place in the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal, Aubameyang and Grosskreutz scored the only goals of the game as Die Borussen warded off a Cup upset from their promotion chasing competitors.

c54691ad5fe1887936e255acc348f563.png

Although slightly rotating the side for the match, Werrett will no doubt he glad to see two of his more influential players finding themselves on the scoresheet, Aubameyang scoring a sharp volley from 14 yards before Grosskreutz doubled the advantage with a tap-in little over 10 minutes later.

While expected, Dortmund had the better of the ball and rarely gave their opponents a chance with Heidenheim only mustering up a total of 6 shots from the 90 minutes. Fans were able to see the new look side in action with the supporters themselves going home happy.

Dortmund will now play Bundesliga 2. side FSV Frankfurt in the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal at the Signal Iduna Park on the 29th, October.

No doubt the fans will be expecting to reach another Final, possibly with the chance of winning another piece of silverware this season.

I kinda missed seeing you on German lands (what did happen with your Düsseldorf save by the way?), so I'm glad to see you back in action.

I'm not a big Dortmund fan myself (blame Klopp for that), but picking them seems like one of the most logical choices if you're planning to overthrow the Bavarian overlords... since well, it's the team that can pull it off in the shortest period of time (Schalke being a somewhat close second I guess).

Transfer wise you've made quite good moves, the only gripe I can find is Subotic. While I agree that his time in Dortmund had pretty much expired I can't help but thinking that maybe you could have made a bigger profit for him.

You're doing great so far, but the season just started. So don't let your guard down and hang in there I want to see you up there at the end of the season.

Good luck and save a seat for me on Signal Iduna Park ^^

.P.S.: The fun thing is that I actually own a Borussia Dortmund T-Shirt...^^U

Haha, that t-shirt is awesome! The Düsseldorf save was lost when my laptop stopped working (I've since bought a new one) so I lost all of my saves that I had on FM at that time.

Dortmund are possibly the closest contenders to Bayern currently but I feel that Schalke have better young players and within a few years they could easily be on Dortmund's level, I was tempted to play as Leverkusen too! But as I said before, my Grandfather is a life-long Dortmund fan, and with the outgoing Klopp it seemed like a fun thread to start!

I agree £10m is a small amount for Subotic, but Liverpool originally only offered £7 million and after trying to raise it to £12.5 million I settled for 10. Hopefully I won't live to rue the decision!

Hopefully it'll be a good save, thanks for the feedback! :)

Good to see you back on here! Really enjoyed the Managerial Rollacoaster story, hopefully this one will be just as enjoyable :)

Nice mate!!!! Are u German by any chance? My Tottenham save has broken so who should I be? Would prefer not to be in England because Tottenham were the only team in England that I wanted to be so could you help me choose a team outside of england? Germany seems fun!!

Opening Day Win for Die Borussen

Prediksi-Bayer-Leverkusen-vs-Borussia-Dortmund.jpg

New installed Borussia Dortmund Manager Alexander Werrett got off to a positive start today when his side overcame a 1 goal deficit to pick up three points away at European contenders Bayer Leverkusen. The game saw an attendance of 30,210 with the travelling fans looking to see their new Manager take on his first Bundesliga game.

c0d640ee9cbaa0d1bb769d9dd78f4f7c.png

Things didn't get off to the best of starts for Borussia Dortmund with Bayer Leverkusen being awarded a penalty after 7 minutes when Lukasz Pizczsek brought down Lars Bender with a late challenge, the spot-kick was then converted by Midfielder Simon Rolfes to give the home side the lead.

Dortmund's own Bender twin pulled things level 4 minutes later when the central midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the box before firing the ball into the bottom right hand corner, struck with pure venom!

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured the win for Dortmund just after the hour mark when the ball dropped to his feet 10 yards out following an impressive run from Shinji Kagawa, a simple finish for the former Etienne striker as he side-footed the ball into the back of the net.

There were a few nerves for Die Borussen late on with Josip Drmic twice stealing the ball of Mats Hummels, but the Swiss forward could only pick out Roman Weidenfeller on both attempts, a sigh of relief from the travelling fans!

Around the Bundesliga victories were also picked up on the opening day by Paderborn, Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Augsburg. Schalke could only muster up a draw against Hoffenheim.

Next up for Dortmund is a home-tie against Freiburg but also the group stage draw for the UEFA Champions League, it's sure to be an interesting week for the Club!

Please post below to offer a suggestion as to how this thread should be laid out, would you prefer updates every match, or every 2 matches..How about monthly? Let me know below! - Sander

Tough Group Draw...

Dortmund Handed Tough Group

Borussia Dortmund today took part in the UEFA Champions League group stage draw alongside some of Europe's most elite clubs. The draw would be the first attended by Manager Alexander Werrett as he looks to try and take Dortmund back to European glory, the club most recently lost to fierce rivals Bayern Munich in the 2013 Final.

View attachment 264532View attachment 264529View attachment 264528

However, despite being seeded as a 2nd tier team, Borussia Dortmund were unable to avoid a tough draw as they were grouped alongside Chelsea, Galatasaray and Roma. It's certainly going to be a challenge for the new Manager and his team with expectations high on making it past the group stage.

"There's no denying it's a tough group, we know that. All we can do is go out and give it our best shot, but we're certainly going to be pushed to the limit." Werrett told reporters earlier today.

fcbd9e81d7cedb4c62071abeb0776d10.png

Dortmund will start their European adventure at one of the toughest stages with an away trip to Stamford bridge before returning home to face AS Roma. Galatasaray then follow with back-to-back fixtures before ending with Chelsea at home and Roma back in Italy.

Dortmund have also been awarded £6.39m for reaching the Group Stage.
