Hi guys, I had a new custom built PC arrive today, but for the life of me FM2013 just will not load up properly. The adverts show but the screen just goes black (No menu pops up) My specs are as followed : i5 4670K overclocked/GTX 760 graphics card/8GB RAM/Windows 8, does anyone know why this is happening? Pretty shocked as my old ancient laptop managed to load it, yet not a brand spanking new pc, thanks

Could possibly be compatibility issues with Windows 8? I know some games have issues running on Windows 8

You could try changing the compatibility options.

Find your FM13.exe icon on your desktop/start menu and right click and and click properties. there there is a tab called compatibility. In there there is a tick box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" tick it, and then select windows 7 from the list then click ok. Then try loading it up and see what happens.

Im not sure if that is the process on Win8. It is for 7, so I would imagine it would be the same on 8.

When I right click I don't get a compatibility box. It's on steam and that gave me a compatibility box but nothing on FM itself to be able to change. My graphic drivers are all up to date

You will need to find the one that isnt on steam. If you didnt make a copy on the desktop/start menu, you will need to find it on your C: drive.

Just found it, on windows 7 I just got an error message saying 'unable to find some essential data, please ensure the game is installed correctly' Installation seemed to be fine mate when it was installing

Did you change anything in the compatibility bit your said you found on steam?

Yeh just tried it in vista (What worked on my old laptop) but still a black screen after the adverts. When I try any of the others I get that error message

Hmm very weird. I managed to find this on an old thread which may help

4. Try renaming your client registry blob:

Windows XP/Vista/7

  • Completely exit from the Steam client.
  • Go to C:\Program Files\Steam (or the Steam directory that was specified during installation).
  • Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob.
  • Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.
  • Test the issue once more.
Mac OSX

  • Completely exit from the Steam client.
  • Go to /Users/[Username]/Library/Application Support/Steam
  • Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob.
  • Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.
  • Test the issue once more
Important

It is not recommended to delete the Old.blob as it may be used later to determine recurring issues.

Give that a try. If not, im afraid im stumped oO)

You can try checking this thread: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/football-manager-2012-technical-help/85266-steam-help-thread.html Might have something in there that will get it to work.

Tried all of that and still nothing, gutted :( Spent a lot of money on the pc too

Just tried another game, team fortress 2 and it loaded fine. There must be a way to get FM2013 to load

have you tried verifying integrity of game cache??? if load steam>click library>right click on fm 2013>properties>click on local files tab> and its the last option. this will check if all files are present and if not steam will download missing files.

yup tried that aswell, still nothing. it said it was fine

try uninstalling the game and re-downloading/installing it might be worth a shot as this happened a couple of times to me on fm 2012

I've done that as well, feels like I've tried everything, just does not wanna work. And its a pretty solid system too, just baffling

It shouldnt be a windows 8 issue, thats what i run with. My suggestion is to update the video drivers, or roll back to a previous version if you're running the brand newest and go from there
