Seeing as FM 2011 is drawing to a near, and FM 2010 is drawing to a close, I thought I would do a quick story with my local club, and one of my 2 clubs I support, Brentford (The other being Chelsea). I live a 15 minute walk away from Griffin Park, and a 5 minute bus ride away so here goes when I took over!
Please note, I am using an end of season update by LFC Marshall.

ANDY SCOTT LEAVES GRIFFIN PARK
WITH DRAMATIC EFFECT!

"Today it was announced that after 2 years of management, Andy Scott would quit the job at Griffin Park. His contract was due to run out, and Scott turned down the opportunity to negotiate a new deal at Brentford, resulting in Brentford without a manager. But it was not long after, Chairman Greg **** scaled a shortlist for the job, coming up with a number of names. A number names came as a surprise in a press conference with Greg ****, when he announced Martin Allen, formally a Brentford manager could be a possible candidate to take over at Griffin Park, Terry Bullivant (current care-taker manager, former assistant manager to Andy Scott) and major fan, Stuart Regan of Ealing. Regan was a major surprise to the fans. He's been a semi-pro player at a Sunday League team, but ended his career early due to knee ligament injuries that consistantly occured, but attended Griffin Park as a young boy, aged 6 his first game, when notable players such as Lloyd Owusu, Ívar Ingimarsson, Martin Rowlands and Hermann Hreiðarsson were at the club.

It was soon after that press conference, that Regan was spotted at the grounds, eventually having the opportunity to walk around the grounds, not as a fan with limited roaming, but with freedom. Sources were able to understand that Stuart Regan was meeting with the Chairman, Greg ****, to talk contract details and terms. It was hours after that, Regan left the grounds, announcing his dream had come true. Once a boy that supported the club, and now a man, managing the likes of players he pushed forward, at home games, away games, cup games, pre-season, just months ago."

"EMPTY SEATS AT GRIFFIN PARK"
- Brentford Chronicle

As July came to an end, a lot of action occured at Griffin Park. When the appointment of Stuart Regan as manager of Brentford FC, it was quite expected that a new backroom staff would be applied. from Physio to 1st team coach, all out and a new bunch of qualified expert's were given a lifeline. Regan went on the free agent list of unemployed staff and picked up a whole new backroom staff, keeping Terry Bullivant as Assistant Manager.

Regan's new Backroom staff:
  • Paul Hardyman - First team coach
  • Jim Montgomery - Goalkeeping coach
  • John Murtough - Youth coach
  • Chris Dowhan - Youth coach
  • Steve Whitehall - Physio
  • Malcolm Shotton - Scout
  • Pat Holland - Scout

Pre-season fixtures & results:

Bees 0 - 2 Nottingham Forest
Throughout the game, Brentford were on the back foot, the quality of Blackstock and Earnshaw was too much for the Bees.

Bees 0 - 2 Sheffield United
Despite losing, Bees made more chances, but rued any given opportunity. Happy with the performance, just evident lack of quality; Beginning to gel together.

Mansfield 0 - 1 Bees
Totally dominant, starting to play like a team rather than a game in park with schoolboys. But only scored 1 out of 21 shots, lacking quality infront of goal. Also saw complacency from the 85th minute to the final whistle.

Bees 2 - 3 Reading
Saunders and Simpson scored 2 goals in 2 minutes to come back from 1-0 down, just before halftime. But then took the half time rest, and came out sleeping. Hamer saved a penalty, but still never managed to hold off the 2-2 scoreline. Overall pleased with the performance against the Championship side.

Staines 1 - 1 Bees
Really unhappy with the performance; just simply did not try hard enough.

Transfers, injuries & the rest:

*Pim Balkestein picked up an injury at the Reading game, seeing himself out for 6 weeks.
*David Hunt, who played well in the games he played in during pre-season, out for 4 weeks, returning to matches 29th August.
*Leon Legge, 3rd Choice Cb - Out for 4 weeks.

Robbie Simpson was the pre-season top goalscorer, impressing the manager and rightfully gaining a first team position in the season opener against Peterborough.

Sam Saunders was the pick of the bunch in the midfield area, playing 4 games, tearing Reading apart notably.

Richard Lee was the goalkeeper of pre-season, impressing the most, despite conceding the most.

Brentford have been drawn against Barnet in the League Cup 1st round.

Looking good mate.

Have a look at my story.(Click on my sig)

Thanks a lot. I'm looking at a month a day from here on. So tomorrow will be August. I'll also admit, I'm looking at bringing in Jake Livermore on a 1-3 month loan deal as a replacement for Hunt from my newly affiliated club, Tottenham and a CB, maybe Carl Magnay, I'll give him a shot, never tried him before.

Stay tuned! ;0)
