Nearly 3 seasons completed and already one of the most unique and interesting saves I've had on any Football Manager! But before I explain where I'm at now, let me give you a rundown on the last 3 years.

The Beginning

I begun my descent into management at Watford. After tipping them for promotion in real life, the Hornets had a rocky start to the season with managerial changes left, right and centre, which led to a slow start languishes far lower than I had expected in the table. Swiftly, I logged on to Football Manager to start a save to see if I could lead them on the Premier League trail.

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that smooth. Too many draws, tactical issues and a knee-jerk decision by the board saw me sacked 6 months into my reign. Looking back, I'm disappointed I was sacked. 13th place in the league despite star strikers Deeney and Vydra both picking up 2-3 month injury during my tenure seemed plausible to me and I was confident I could kick the team on, but such is football management and I resigned myself to opening up the jobs page in the paper.

Interviews at Hartlepool, Port Vale and Colchester, none took my fancy, so I stayed waiting until a job more suited to me appeared. Carlisle United, lying underachieving in 16th place in League Two. I assessed the squad to find some players who intrigued me: Daniel Kearns, a former Peterborough United winger who I knew was playing way below his ability; David Amoo, ex-Liverpool winger/striker with good pace and potential; John Marquis, only on loan but I soon made that permanent with a £14,000 bid, I'd had him at Bristol City on FM14 and felt confident he was my talisman. I went through the job interview process and having already been offered two jobs at League One level, I was quietly confident of securing my next managerial venture.

The job I wanted was in the bag and I took over with immediate effect. This first season was more of a bedding in year, assuring the team stays clear of the drop and making plans for the following season to mount a promotion attempt.

Could we do it?

Mission accomplished! Only climbing one place in three months was disappointing but we did what was necessarily to go into the second season ready for a promotion charge!

Season 2 looked promising indeed, would we be challenging or would our career hit a similar abrupt end to how it did at Watford?

New post coming soon, stay tuned!
:)
