Carragher replaces Rodgers

Liverpool Football Club have today released a statement announcing the departure of Brendan Rodgers as manager of the club, on personal grounds. Club owner John W Henry reiterated his desire to appoint a homegrown young manager, familiar with the traditions and expectations of the club.

Replacing Brendan Rodgers, only months after retirement from his playing career, is Anfield fans' favourite Jamie Carragher. Carragher, 35, is noted as a key member of Rafael Benitez's 2005 Champions League winning squad. Carragher spent his entire playing career at Anfield, and takes his first managerial post with his beloved Reds.

Somewhat controversially, there is a twist to Jamie Carragher's appointment. He brings with him a policy he sees as a benchmark for the future progress of English Football and the Barclays Premier League. Carragher will only ever sign and include English footballers in his first team squad. Every XI must feature 11 Englishmen and a full bench of Englishmen. The backroom staff will also be made up of English-only coaches. This will mean a backroom and first-team overhaul - and the loss of key players such as Daniel Agger, Lucas Leiva and Luis Suarez. Carragher has stated he is 'disillusioned' with the influx of continental players into the Premier League and believes it is hindering the progress of the English national side and young homegrown talent.

Instigating this policy and bringing with it success is a challenge Carragher is relishing, but with big-spending sides such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United attracting Europe's best, he knows his plan will be gradual and long-term; and is calling for patience from the Anfield faithful - but makes it clear that this could be the blossoming of something very special for English football.

Carragher's first competitive league match will come at home to newly promoted Crystal Palace.

Ooooh interesting, Full English is a good/fun challenge, You need to bring in quite a few players then

Good idea, Liverpool are a good place to start aswell as they already have some good English players and decent prospects. Looking forward to seeing who you bring in!
