Hello Everyone

I just wanted to ask the tactical gurus advice on playing with a central midfield partnership of a deep lying playmaker and box to box midfielder. I thought that the box to box midfielder can go up and down pitch while the deep lying playmaker would be able to cover if the box to box midfielder gets dragged out of position. I am going to be playing with Arsenal and adopting the 4-2-3-1 formation.

My midfield will be

Alex Song - Box to Box Midfielder
Fabregas - Deep Lying Playmaker
Wilshere - Advance Playmaker - Attack

What is the aim of your midfield, are you for example trying to get a similar feel to the RL arsenal midfield

I would have a Ball winning mid next to my deep lying playmaker (Fabregas)

1) you already have a central attacking midfielder, you do not need two players far up the pitch
2) the ball winner will win the ball back for you only and lay it off to Fabregas or a little further up field, Wilshere
3) having a ball winner and dlp in the centre of the midfield will also hold the shape well which will allow Wilshere to roam (Nasri would be better in this position with Arshavin and Gervinho out wide)

Interesting

I've gone for two deep lying playmakers support (roaming ticked, tight marking ticked, hold up ball unticked) behind my AMC advanced playmaker support (roaming ticked, tight marking unticked), giving me a solid and yet also fluid triangle

Hmm, I normally have an Adv Playmaker and a ball winning CM, then either an anchorman or treq behind/ in front - works pretty well, but the ball winning CM does have to be good

nothing wrong with that either ;) I just always play with a ball winner

Does you two deep lying playmakers on support protect you back for well. I was under the impression that one of the deep lying playmakers should be set up with a defend duty so that the back four is protected from counter attacks.

I also thought that deep lying playmakers do not get involved in winning the ball back so you midfield would be vulnerable to quick counter attacks through the middle.

They do get involved, they screen it very well, but obviously it will depend on attributes of a player as well

DLP with support duty is not too advanced, they should have enough positional responsibilities to not go forward at the same time. They both involve into attacks, but not taking too big risks.

I had 2 deep lying playmakers with defensive duty once, it offered a good protection against the counter attacks, allowed my wingbacks to go forward all the time and put in aggressive crosses. Also my front 4 was creative enough to create chances, usually scored by my poacher, while the deep lying playmakers kept possession within my team.

MCL: Song - Ball winner- support
MCR: wilshere - DLP/Box2Box-Support
AMC: Advamce playmaker - support.

keep wingers inside fwd, or just wingers.

that who i do it.

box to box(support) with ball winning midfielder(defend)..you should try..great combination..

In my arsenal game a play song as a ball winner(defend) next to fabregas as advance playmaker(attack) and song has won my player of the year for both seasons.
