thats because the stopper is pushing up as the anchorman comes deep. try a standard dm ahead of a stopper. personally dont play stoppers myself thoughLots of answers to this which are based on formation, quality and whether or not you play a DM. I'd suggest if you use a CDM (anchorman or a more creative mid) that you use a standard CB-Def, and a CB-Cover - but that may give you differing results to using a standard midfield with a stopper and a cover defender, or even double standard defenders with a defensive role. Obviously not everyone has a ball playing Beckenbaur to play as a CB-Cover to collect from the keeper and play in the libero style.
I'm pretty unimpressed by how a DM in the anchorman role combined with a ball playing 'stopper', I tend to see them getting in each other's way and/or getting dragged hugely out of position if you play a high pressing game.
that i agree on, the stooper gets too far fowards and creates that gap, especially if you use a stopper/cover.If you're playing a deep midfield use cover/def, playing a high midfield you can try to either use the same or switch to a stopper.
Madsheep: Yeah I should have explained a bit more clearly, I use a Defensive Midfielder with a Support role at the moment to run out of defence, but consider him an 'anchorman' purely as he breaks up attacks. I'm just not especially happy with the way Stopper defenders function with high pressing tactics, I think I need to tweak how far he runs out of defence in order for it to function better, right now he charges out almost to the half-way line.
