Japanese-quake-victims-More-than-10000-people.jpg

After the tragic Tsunami and Earthquake in Japan 2 weeks ago, my football team has decided to do our annual charity football match for the Japanese people. Each year we rent out a local stadium, get some referees, get a crowd and play a 90 minute game of football with activities on the day and all funds raised go to the charity.

Last year we did it for Macmillans Cancer Trust and raised £300. This year we've decided to try and raise as much as we can in the wake of the disaster for Japan.

We have rented out the Hillingdon Sports Arena and this event will be taking place on Sunday April 17th from 11:30am - 16:00. We will have professional referees and linesmen and we have received official recognition from the FA for this game. Of course, this is mainly aimed at people in London or nearby to London.

This thread is basically an invitation to anyone who lives in the area or nearby and wants to attend or make a donation to the cause. We hope you can all try and wish us luck in our quest to raise as much money as we can for the Japanese.

Saw this on Facebook, seems good what you do and wish you all the best in raising as much as possible. Would be nice to be there, but I'm a bit far away :$

Nope, but we do have official recognition from the FA.

Yeah, would be nice - but you will be in Wales while we're in Uxbridge lol..

Would like to, but a bit far away for my liking :S All the best however.

We're looking at trying to set up an online account for people to be able to donate online.. If we manage it, I'll be sure to post the link here.

Hmm. I live only half an hour from Hillingdon, so I might pop over. Sounds like fun.

Hey guys,

We've set up an online page to donate to our cause and it goes to an official project for the Japan Earthquake.

Check it out and donate please! The more we raise the better!

Great idea mate, unfortunately can't make it due to family commitments. More than happy to make a donation for a more than worthy cause though. All the best with it :)

Although it's a good thing that you and your team are doing, and it's awful what happened in Japan...I can't help but agree with those that are saying Japan don't need our money.

Personally, I think you should have picked a charity more closer to home, that would benefit a lot more from your £300 (E.g Macmillans like you have chosen previously).

None the less - good luck raising money.

EDIT.

Unless the charity chosen is to send search and rescue teams or something of the sort, that's what they need - or needed.

That's what some of the people taking part were saying, but we came to the conclusion that every little helps and we may be able to raise more money for a tragedy being as widely covered as this.

Thanks for the good wishes though.

Roxeth Park United 3-0 Northolt Park
Gallagher x2, Patrin

Roxeth Park United dominated to a comfortable win in the Annual Charity Match at Hillingdon Sports Center in a game dominated by Watford Academy Youth Dominic Gallagher. The Portuguese Wizard, who started off on the bench due to a knee injury, but came on after 24 minutes due to James Doyle getting ill, ran the game from center midfield in the first half, getting an assist for Patrin's well taken goal. The playmaker slipped through a superb through ball and Patrin gambled well before rounding the keeper and slotting home just before half time from a tight angle.

The first half was fairly even with both sides playing a 4-4-2 formation, and Northolt actually started off the better side crashing the crossbar with a scorching free kick just 6 minutes in. After that though Roxeth began to dominate, although Northolt always looked dangerous on the counter with the pace of striker Thomas Gilder up front causing problems.

The second half brought about some changes, with Daniel Feliciano dropping into holding midfield and Dominic Gallagher going into his regular striker position and the momentum of the game changed. Feliciano began to run the game from midfield, picking up the ball deep and pinging passes over the top and out wide to attack the full backs - whilst adding composure and an extra man in defensive situations. The second goal came from a corner delivered by #7 Feliciano. The Portuguese midfielder whipped in an excellent corner into the backpost, and managed to find the 5ft 5 striker Gallagher who managed to slam home his header and double Roxeth Park's lead.

Northolt struggled to compete in the second half, with heat taking a massive toll on their smaller squad and Roxeth made substitutions at the crucial time to overrun them in midfield. Louis Cain began to use his power to muscle everyone and he played the through ball into Gallagher for him to get his second of the game. He picked up the ball on the edge of the area before turning onto his right foot and bending the ball into the far corner past the diving goalkeeper.

The game was marred however by an injury to Roxeth Park United's right midfielder Chris Spiers who in a 50/50 challenge managed to tear his anterior ankle ligaments and will be out for the next month or so.

However, this game will be remembered for some brilliance by Dominic Gallagher and a fantastic cup win for Roxeth Park United.

The day in general was a success although we didn't raise much money - £100.30 to be precise. However, it's the thought that counts and it was a fun day out.

For some reasons the pictures I've placed into the post won't come up - any reason why?
