Choosing a tactic on game day

I am wondering how people decide what tactic to use on any given game day. I am using Might and Magic both the attacking version and the counter version (Away) and the Short and Sweet. But I am never sure which tactic I should be choosing? I typically go with what has brought me success but that is inconsistent. I am not asking which of my tactics I should use specifically, but I am curious how do people decide what tactic to use… what factors play into their decisions?

Opposition formation, opposition key players. Weather. Pre-match odds! All key variables to succes I'n any game

So ar ether certaing formations that ar emore effcetive gainst other formtions e.g., 442 vs 4132 etc. Or is it basically the players you have?

I've got a home (possession) tactic and an away tactic. I use the third tactic when one of the others isn't working.
