Hi all. I have enjoyed reading through many of the stories on here so I decided to have a bash at making one.

Palermo: Set-up and Pre Season

I decided to choose Palermo as they are not a massive team but not a over daunting challenge and have a good solid base to build a team from (a bit like Birmingham). I inherit a team with £55million debts, a strong youth set-up and good facilities. But overall Palermo has an average squad with only 2-3 real stand out players.

Upon taking the Palermo job I stated that I felt I could attain a mid table finish with my current squad. The Palermo board gave me an £8million (which could be boosted by selling players) to match my ambition and to help me attain this goal.

Transfers:
With the money I made the following transfers:

As you can see - the transfers I have made are players that will develop into good players in 2-3 seasons time. I am very happy with the capture of Gago at a relatively small fee of £4.5million. Verratti also looks like he will develop into a world class player.

Along with brining these players in I have also made wholesale changes to my back-room staff - laying off most of the initial Palermo staff.

Coaches.jpg

Even though it is not up to the standard of Manchester United etc - The coaching I feel is at a good standard for a club of Palermo's stature - with all of the coaching level being 3.5 stars or over. It is a massive improvement over what it used to be and I am very happy that the club is able to attract staff like Arsenal's Steve Bould.

Hopefully, next season I can add HSV's Moniz to my back-room staff.

Tactics and Training:
I will be using Kris' Ancelotti tactics as a base. I normally chop and change these tactics to suit my team but Kris' tactic provides my team with a solid base, which I can adapt to fit around my team.

I will be using Dan's training. A lot of people seem to be using Dan's over Tug's now so I will be giving Dan's a bash with my Palermo team.

Kris Ancelotti Tactic can be found here:

Dan's Training can be found here: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f72/dans-training-schedule-fm2010-t23818.htmlMy team will line up like:

As you can see the team is nothing special. But we have a team that has a lot of potential to grow. Pastore, Kjaer are 2 very exciting prospects in addition to the players that I have purchased. The mid table expectation will allow me to blood my youngsters into the team without too much pressure on results and hopefully they will grow into good players.

Pre Season:
The team breezed through pre season. They did well in adapting to the tactics that I am employing and played some very nice football in the process.

The pre season results were:

August/Setember - Results

August/September Results

Results Update:
I have combined August and September due to August only having a couple of games. I kicked off the campaign with a cup game against lower league AlbinoLeffe.

Italian Cup: Palermo 4 - 0 AlbinoLeffe: Bovo(2), Cavani(2)
An easy win in a game that we dominated. AlbinoLeffe only had a single shot on target - which was a clear cut change :S - but apart from that we walked all over them - which was expected. The only bad thing to come of this game that my best striker - Cavani got knock in game - after the game it was revealed he would be out for a few weeks.

Palermo 1 - 0 Cagliari: Kjaer

A poor game. Cagliari set out to defend from the start and it worked. We couldn't break them down as a result the only chances either side produced came from set pieces. Kjaer scored from a corner for us which got us a win on the first league game of the season. A clean sheet which was nice.

Palermo 1 - 1 Siena: Traore, Paolucci
Another poor game with little chances - Siena got an early goal from a comer then set out their stool to defend. We had 60% of possession but lacked any sort of penetration. Traore scored a good goal from a great team move - but overall a draw was probably a fair result.

Palermo 1 - 0 Livorno: Pastore

We dominated the game from start to finish - bossing possession and creating chances. Livorno didn't create anything and we took the win we deserved.

Palermo 1 - 1 Juventus: Traore, Amauri

I marked this down as a heavy defeat - we were still missing Cavani so lacked any real quality that could damage a world class Juve defence. I decided to play on the counter attack and it worked! Both teams created little - at half time both teams only had 1 shot each. When Juve took the lead it was a hammer blow as we were the ones bossing possesion and creating the chances. But with the match drawing to a close Traore pounced on a poor back pass to the keeper and sliding the ball into the net on the 89th minuet - class :D

Palermo 2 - 1 Roma: Brighi (OG), Miccoli, Brighi

A tight game. Roma dominated possession and had almost 60% of the game over the entire match, in the first 20mins Roma took the lead. But we played well on the counter and matched them for long periods of the game and stopped them from creating too many chances. We took the lead after a good team move resulting Brighi to head into his own net. On as a sub, Miccoli produced a sublime finish on his weaker left foot from a tight angle to win the game for us. Chuffed :P

AugandSept-RESULTS.jpg

Palermo has had a very good month. Out of 6 games I have had 4 wins and 2 draws - no losses :P. The stand-out result being the 2-1 win over Roma and the great away result against Juve - both games I expected to loose by 3-4 goals!

League table:
Leaugetable-SEPT.jpg

As it stands I am in 4th place with 11 points :P

Player of the Month: Cesare Bovo
Playerofthemonth-AugustSept.jpg

Bovo has been a rock in defence and a threat in attack. His level of performances have been top notch typified by the great displays he put in against Juve and Roma. Scored a double against lower league AlbinoLeffe and has chipped in with 2 assists in the league.

Nice results.

Yea the team has really surprised me - they are performing well - we were never outclassed by Roma or Juve - really promising :D

I've started a Palermo team as well. They are playing well, except 5 games in the keeper Rubinho seems a bit erratic. The ball has bounced off his hands for no reason, it has bounced off his face on a lob anyone could have caught, and he has let some balls in the net that should have been saved given his stats. How has he done for you?
