I find that the TI closing down is much more effective than standing off.
Players seem to either:
A) give the opposition too much room to whip in a cross / play a through ball OR
B) mark just that little bit too tight (without actually going in for the tackle), and the opposition player takes the ball past them anyway.

Basically, I've never gotten standing off as a tactic to work, even with Drop Deeper and Play Narrower and a Counter mentality.

Thoughts?

Also, Merry Christmas FM Base! :)

EDIT: The spam posts are extremely annoying. :(

It really comes down to your players.

If you've quick players with good marking and Workrate: closing down can be effective but make sure they've good stamina.

If you've players with good positing, anticipations and Tackling; stand off is effective.

CLosing down is more bassed on the man marking style wheras Standing off is focus on a zonal marking stlye.
Neither is better than the other, you just need to know which suits the players you have at the club.
