Hi All,

I want your help a bit here, mainly as I'm a little lazy but would love it if we can come up with a rough/general guide (eventually this will be transferred into an article with more depth) of what traits/PPMs suit each role. Obviously this varies with each tactic/player but if we can set a foundation it may help people!

Please post below what traits/PPMs you think are suitable.

We'll ignore discipline/mental ones for now such as Likes To Argue With Officials / Gets Crowd Going
Secondly, if you're using this already, some traits won't work for the role as it will still depend on the duty e.g. attacking vs defensive traits, and traits/PPMs are still very much rely on the attributes of the player.

Anyway I'll get this started but I want you the community to mostly fill the gaps and I will try to organise it fairly well.

Isn't "Stays back all times (?)" good for central defenders?

Also get Curls Ball for your free kick takers! (Can be taught only via mentoring)

Any midfielder, defensive or support, that is asked to hold up ball, or to be a supply link, in a slow-paces passing/possession system could benefit of the trait(s) "Dwells On Ball" and/or "Stops Play" - several people say that those traits are dangerous, sure, they can be, depending on the system you play. If you play a fast-paced direct system, then those traits can be a hinderance.

The trait "Shoots With Power" is one I personally like alot. Because if it is on target, then the player usually scores, specially in lower leagues.
This trait is purely dependant on the players "FInishing" attribute. The higher finishing attribute, the higher chance the shot will be on target.
Players with high technique are discouraged to shoot with power, and instead to place shots.

"Tries Long Range Passes" - This trait is one of my other favorites.
I tend to get my Fullback, Wing Backs, Defensive Midfielders and Ball-Playing Defenders to get this trait.
Seeing that long direct ball over the defense, to get a striker one-on-one with AI Keeper. Mmmhh :D
Again a simple trait, with a simple purpose. I'd say that good "Passing" and "Technique" attributes for this trait.

Updated! Slightly changed how I've approached it by adding a section for Finishing and Set Pieces

  • Places Shots
  • Shoots With Power
Don't these contradict each other? Can the same forward have em both?

Also, what good does "Uses Outside of Foot" do, really?

Places Shots - Basically the player will attempt to place the ball where the goalkeeper has a harder time to reach it.
This trait of course requires very good finishing to work well, as well as technique.
Shoots With Power - this trait will have the player attempt blast the ball. If the shot is on target, keepers will have a hard time saving it unless they have very good reflexes.
This trait doesnt require good technique, but very good finishing.
And no, these traits should not be able be on the same player.

As for Uses Outside of Foot - I see it as a combination of Curls Ball and Avoids Using Weaker Foot. Just means they'd rather use the outside of the foot instead of using their weaker foot to achieve their target and of couse using the outside of the foot can lead to some interesting results and beauitful curls, along with misses centimeters from the goal line.

Runs With Ball Down Left/Right
- This trait is very straight forward. You can say that it is the direct opposite to the trait (Cuts Inside from Left,Right, Both Wings)
- This trait is good for wingers, wing backs, complete wing backs and to some extend, fullbacks and wide midfielders.
- This trait will have the player to try and run/dribble with the ball down the flanks.
- Recommended attributes: Good dribbling and Balance. Fairly good Flair, Agility and Technique.

Personally I approve this trait along with "Runs With Ball Often" to my wingers, and wing backs/complete wing backs asked to get forward or play with an attacking duty.

Updated yet again, thanks Lunalion. Also added roles in which I missed out on!

A few ideas/considerations from me:

- "Gets Forward Whenever Possible" for DL/DR/WBL/WBR
- "Hugs Line" as an alternate for DL/DR/WBL/WBR which is sometimes effective
- "Comes Deep To Get Ball" and "Dictates Tempo" for DLP
- "Arrives Late In Opponents' Area" for support minded AMC/CM
- "Gets Into Opposition Area", converse to above for attack minded AMC/CM
