Hi guys, I have this obsession in creating a 4-2-3-1 tactical system that uses IF's not Wingers. Before I wrote this post, I have tried and tried again but failed every time. The closest I ever got was decent, but not what i was really expecting from this. So, basically there are 3 major things to cover:

1. Decent defence when the opponent is constantly putting pressure.

2. Good ways to block enemy counter-attacks.

3. Creating scoring chances.

Now, I never managed to accomplish all these 3 things no matter what i did. I can cover 2, but not 3. Usually the hardest part is number 1. When the enemy is applying pressure, my team snaps, leaves too much space in the middle or in the wide areas (depending on the roles i give). I can put up a plan that gives me assurance to reduce the number of counter-atacks the enemy has, but the real problem is to win the ball back when the enemy is playing in my own half of the field. I uderstand how 4-2-3-1 works, but it is supposed to work with wingers (usually), but I am **** sure it can work with IF's aswell. Remember Bayern Munich with Jupp Heynckes ? The old man played a beautiful 4-2-3-1 using Robber as an IF and they won everything. I searched other forums aswell, and there are a lot of people who are trying to create such a tactic, but most of them fail at covering all the 3 major things that a tactic is supposed to provide. I am willingly to work with any of you who are taking this seriously and try to put up such a tactic. I will put a link that takes you to my Steam Profile and you can add me if you are interested to discuss about this or anything else regarding FM15. I dont know why, but I am bored of 4-3-3 and I really want to create a 4-2-3-1 that works with IF's. Cheers.

deep 4231? with the 2 DM closer to the defense line?

I added you on steam. Ever since that Bayern/Barca final. I've wanted to emaluate this tactic. I'm down to work with you. lets figuring it out because Im bored of the 4-3-3 as well, its not fun.

Hi all,

I came across this thread and thought I would chip in as I have formulated a tactic that utilises IFs. I pulled one of the central midfielders back as a CDM, so it is a 4-1-1-3-1 if you like, as opposed to a straight 4-2-3-1

I have attached the file and would welcome your thoughts and feedback, it is working well for me playing as Manchester United, Reus was banging in a goal a game on average last season from the left IF and Hulk is getting a good mix of goals and assists from the right... The idea of the asymmetric midfield is to provide cover on either side, I found if they are both in the middle it leaves too much space. I originally had it as one B2B midfielder and a Roaming Playmaker but I was shipping too many goals, the Anchorman gives a bit of defensive cover and allows the full backs to push forward and overlap with the IFs as they cut inside.

Cheers,

Lewis

I think its the roles you gave them not the positions they occupy both of these guys wont hold their position so you have no cover infront of the backline... A roaming CM is going to do the obvious and a B2B will be all over the place too, same if you use a ball winner he will come out of his position to close things down...

You'd have far more success with 2 DLPs (D) & (S) or CMs that hold their position...

Thanks CDXtreme , that was the thinking behind dropping the Roaming Playmaker and replacing with an Anchorman, a more steady position that gives the second midfield man the freedom to go box-to-box and support both defence and attack. Seems to work ok with the right players.

I might try the two DLP thouht, might give both creativity and defense and maintain a bit more shape than a box-to-box.

Cheers,

I use this as my formation with 2 IF's. I have the CM's set to DLP and ball winner. I have the FB's on attack as well.

Hi Lewis, I don't know if anyone has given you feedback on this tactic, but I tried it and I must say it's the most balanced 4-2-3-1 tactic I've seen. I tried a long time to create a good 4-2-3-1 but pulling one of the central mids back to play as an anchor man worked wonders for me. I don't always use the box-to-box role for the CM, because I tend to get overcrowded in midfield playing against a 4-1-4-1, or 3-5-2 for example.
