I'm FC Seoul, and as the title suggests, my team has been dominating the Asian Champions League, Pan-Pacific Championship, Club World Cup, etc. I've won the ACL for 4 years running, the PPC every year I've been in, and the CWC 2 times in the past 3 years. Domestic domination as well. Seoul are without a doubt, the team to beat in Asia.

Yet looking at the K-League's ranking in Asia, it's at #8 and it actually managed to lose a spot since the last year. I thought the league rankings were supposed to change depending on how it does in continental competitions but it hasn't in the 5 years I've been coaching.

Am I doing something wrong? Or has this domination of mine actually not good for the league and I actually have to let other teams win for a change to make it seem more... competitive?

I'd imagine, though I'm only speculating, that the league ranking would be a direct result of the co-efficient (not sure if this is the correct phrase for Asia) going up or down. So although you may be doing really well in continental competitions, your rivals in the league may not. If you're doing well but everyone else is getting panned in the first round, this will probably damage your coefficient and thus bring down your league ranking. I'm not sure if other factors are involved though.

You've probably reached the peak of how good the league can get with just one club dominance? If you're winning everything but the other clubs aren't advancing very far in the Asian competitions it's going to limit the possible growth I would think.

Other clubs need to be doing well in continental comps too. Your success in continental comps should attract better players to your club, which should in turn mean other teams try and get better players to compete with you, this can be a long process though.

i think it is more of an average of your league. So even though your winning everything the rest of your league are poor which brings your league down in the co-efficients.
kinda like england. the have 4 teams throught to the knockout stages of the champions league and more from the europa league. So they are recognised as one of the best leagues in the world.

So do I have to assume then that I am in a no-win situation?

My board wants me to win everything but winning everything makes the league worse thereby keeping me at "continental" reputation and making me unwanted by the rest of the top flight clubs in the world? If I don't win everything, I get fired by the board and I'll have to keep managing another top-flight Korean club...

Even with me being the South Korean national coach and winning the Asian Cup didn't do anything for my rep.

Actually, by me leaving, it might do the league some good...

How about selling some of your players to the other teams so they can do well in some of the other competitions? Even if they don't win them, if there are lots of Korean finalists, that should help improve the league's rep. I guess if worse comes to worse you can go to Europe for a while to get your rep up to 'Worldwide' and then come back. Good thing though that they didn't overdo it with the league rep, I was afraid they would.

BTW do you teach English in Seoul?
