Counter Attacking advice

I was just wondering if somebody with a little more experience on this style of play could give me a few pointers.

should i give my goalkeeper and particular Player Instructions? any distribution?
should i play with a standard 442 or more of a 451?
should i use a flat 442 or push my wingers up to AML/AMR?

This is how far i've got so far

so far in my friendlies im finding that Defensive is working much better than Counter so im considering sticking with defensive
