As you can see, my two full backs are circled in red, this is the position I like them to take up when attacking. However, I would like my two defensive midfielders (6 and 7) to drop back slightly deeper, into or nearer the white areas, ready to take a pass, or to cover my full back's positions when we lose possession.

How would I go about doing this?

Thanks.

Could you post your tactical settings for the DMCs along with the team settings

would it not be better to use the Barcelona way and have one very deep dm and when the wingbacks go in attack he goes down between the two cb´s and they create a solid 3 man defense?

In short, the reason why your DMCs get forward is that you play Counter attack. When doing so, they will come up high in the field. Combined with that high creative freedom....

Would that make them stay back and cover then?

They get that high u in the field since you are playing attacking ( they having a normal mentality) and on the counter. If you want them to stay back at all times, you need to untick the counter and/or reduce the creative freedom.

When looking at the screen, it doens not seem like its the DMC that are high up in the filed but the DCs sitting very deep

Actually, the more I look at the provided screenshot, the more confused I get. If you want the D;Cs to act like fullbacks when attacking, you will get extremely exposed in the middle when the opponent launches a counter attack. I don't think that this is a good option

How would do this? Because this could possibly stop me from conceding in every game. By the way I play counter attacking football as well, could this be a problem?

What he wants is for, when the fullbacks move up the field, the DMCs to move into the FB positions to cover.

Got to say I've never actually managed to do this, but it might be useful to stop the opposition counterattacking down the flanks.

If this is what he wants, then my answer is the following: It cant be done. It would be useful yes, but then again, the opponent would play trough the middle instead: D
