Hi Guys,

I went into my FM'14 folder this morning and all the folders were the normal ones you expect to see in there, after playing a morning of FM, I saved my game and before I went out for the afternoon, I wanted to check I had saved a screenshot. Upon going back into the FM'14 folder I noticed that a 'CRASH DUMP' folder had appeared, I deleted it and also the crash dump file that appears in the 'Steam Apps' folder.

I would be keen to hear if it will affect my save in the short or long term, as I'm hoping to create a long term save and don't want to get so far, only for the save to become corrupt.

If you guys could give me some advice/feedback that would be great, as I'm too nervous to reload the save just incase, but would rather know now whether I need to start a new game or if I will be ok to continue.

Appreciate your help. :D

Don't worry. A crash dump file is just a "report" of what happened at the moment FM crashed. You don't have anything to fear, as the file won't affect your save in any way.

Crash dump happens when following occurs:

1) Issue between FMs original files and custom one's ( like new DBs, players faces, skins and similar). How to solve it? Best way is to use default FM with no custom skins or any other graphical add on.

2) If some program you have installed on your PC/Laptop/Whatever you use is in conflict with FM. Most common ones are 'PC Speed boosters' like iObit Game booster and similar. I used to have list of programs that are in conflict, but I cannot find it anymore. You could ask on SI forums.

3)RTE. Real time editors like FMRTE or official IGE by SI can corrupt your save file. Genie scout cannot.

4)Random corruption. Worst (or best) possible one. Because you know you didn't do anything wrong and it will probably never happen again, but in the same time you know you can't do anything to stop it from happening again.

You won't accomplish anything by deleting 'crash dump' folder. You can only make things worse for yourself. I would suggest you, if crash dump happens again, to upload it and send it to SI so they can take a look at it and give you more details.
It may, or may not crash you again. My advice to you is to make backups every month ( or even every week if you feel paranoid). So if it crashes again, you won't lose your save. Cheers.

Edit: That crash dump folder is just folder that contains information on error. It is not the reason of your crash dump.

Ok mate, thanks for helping. Thing is though I didn't know when FM crashed as everything has been running smoothly, and after I'd saved the game, it appeared in my folder when I checked. So you pretty confident I'll be ok to continue and have no long lasting problems?

Thanks again. :)

Wow, thank you so much for the advice mate.

i didn't even know there was a problem with my game, as the game played as normal and I saved as normal. It was only the fact I went into the FM folder that I noticed the CRASH DUMP folder had appeared. I save my game every month, so that helps, like in said I just didn't want to get really far into the game and then it crashes and I can't continue.

Fingers crossed I'll stick it out and see what happens. :)
