So basically, the thing about Osrams team is that they played a 4-2-3-1 deep but appeared like a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 on the pitch.

So If you want to create this, you must understand defensive line and player position and Duty.

Basically, a defend Duty drops deeper, a support Duty stays where it is, and attack Duty goes forward. So, your basic 442 isn't actually a 442, as one cm is on defend and drops deeper and one striker is attack and goes forward, and defenders are also defend.

Next thing you must understand, is that some Roles are deeper or higher positioned then others. For example, a limited fullback stays in line witch defenders, while a fullback defend drops deeper one notch. This is important to notice, because, as I have written in my last guide, you need to use overlaps, so If you want your sidebacks inline with defenders, you should use fullback defend role and Duty.

Using overlaps also means wingers will drop one place deeper, in wide midfield area, which is exactly what I want to achieve. They should be, by the above written rules, on support Duty.

Which leads us to another guide on this forum, which is a sticky and says this fits a highly structured team shape. Which means our DM's must be on defend Duty.

This is where mentality and defensive line plays its part, because I want DMs in CM area, as I want a 4-4-1-1 formation. Therefore, I will use control mentality and push defensive line higher up.

As written in one of my guides earlier, control mentality means more direct passing, so I will opt for direct passing and running at defence TI's. I also use wingers, so I will play narrower and exploit the flanks. This resembles a high tempo, counter attacking style, which means using pressing, so I will close down more, be more disciplined and use tighter marking and higher tempo.

According to sticky guide here, AMC should be on support Duty, and striker on Attack. I opted for regular Advanced forward and attacking midfielder. My DM's are also regular DM's but you can perhaps change that into one more Creative, and one more agressive.

So now we have 4-2-3-1 DM Wide formation which transforms into 4-4-1-1. It features many defend duties which means you will rarely conceede with it. It also features three supporting Advanced players to feed the striker, making this a strikers dream, so hattricks are normal. It also features a highly structured team shape making this tactic usefull in both LLM and HLM.

You will win the ball at centre of the pitch, where you have 4 players, and you will quickly launch a counter on the wings which means you will rearely be caught by offside trap.

I have tested this with ManU, Burnley and Hyde, and I usually win 3-0 my matches, but would like others to test it where they like, and submit reports.

Cheers!

Hi! Im gonna give this a go with my lyon save, do you use OI? and how do you set up training and match preperation? :)

"control mentality means more direct passing" - no it doesnt if anything control will lend itself more to shorter passing and ball retention without TI's to state otherwise.

The Mentality Ladder: A Practical Framework for Understanding Fluidity and Duty

have a read through some of that, its agreat breakdown.

actually, when you increase agressivness, forwards tend to make more direct passess, and defenders shorter....if you go with lower mentality, defenders tend to do more direct passess, and forwards shorter...you can either further shorten or directen passess in every case, but it is my beleif you shouldn't go against mentality...a more agressive approach means more risk, and it would be counter productive to play a sensible passing game with increased agressiveness...if it says otherwise in that text, then it is wrong...

I'm not sure if it's just me, or this game started acting weird to everyone. I can no longer get 4411 with this, making this an obsolete tactic....sorry guys...
