Hi, playing as athletico madrid. We are only allowed a maximum of 3 EU players (registered, anyway) and all 3 registered are all outside europe and vital 1st team players (Elias-Brazil, Aguero-Argentina, and Godin-Uruguay)
So we needed a good right back, signed the really nice wonderkid Sime Vrsaljko (who is croatian) but when I go to register him he is classed as foreign even though he is european? Wtf? Can I fix this glitch with FMRTE?

How can they play in euro 08 if their not european?

They are in Europe, but not in the EU. Being European doesn't automatically mean they are in the EU. Only countries in the EU allow movement between countries without the need of a visa, if countries are not in the EU, but in Europe, the player from said country will still need a work permit, or count as 'non-EU'.

wtf? it says on the wiki page "is a country in Central Europe"

edit : okay thanks for clearing that up. That's really stupid and misleading though, in europe but not actually a member of europe -_-

I had the same problem with Atletico, because I bought Danilo and he is brazilian. However Godin and Agüero could get the spanish nationality if you have luck. Normally they get it after the transfer window.

If you make an offer for a player and there is written on the right side that you only can register 3 non-eu players, the player you made an offer for, is a non-eu player. If there's nothing written he can be registered without a problem.

In fm, turkish and the african players count also as eu-players for spain

hahaha, I started a new game testing my new tactic last night with Atletico too :) for the 1st time in Fm11 I signed Sime as well :) same problem, I am currently trying to sell Elias as I have bought Sebastian Battaglia for his replacement to free up a spot for the Non Eu :)

Godin and Aguero I think are both waiting for their Spanish paperwork and have been for a while when the game starts, I have not started the season yet (competively) but am hoping that their paperwork gets awarded before the last squad registration... just keep that in mind mate :) after this you will have another 2 Non Eu places :)

I signed lot of non EU players cos I knew that Aguero and Godin get the spanish nationality quick. Then I used these non eu players mostly on cup games ( europe... ) and in january I registered them so they could play in Liga.

Yes African players also count as eu-players for Finland which I find strange.

Kolpak ruling its called :)

good idea Quasit, will use that surely :) but don't have any cash left :P

I believe that they (and Serbia and others) become eu after a small number of years.

Skipped past the first couple post's.

Croatia is NOT a part of the EU though it IS a part of Europe. Much the same way, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein are parts of Europe but not part of the EU. Europe is the continent, the European Union is an organisation. It wasn't until recently that Bulgaria and Romania were not a part either.

Ha, sound like such a nerd but its actually my job to know. ;)

This thread if ******* gold! What a bunch of ******* idiots that don't think you can be European without being in EU! Wonder if they think that Europe didn't exist until 1993! Being EU just means you're ruled by Germany! For the sake of their respective systems of education, I can only hope they're not teenagers!

What? The Euro 2012 is about the continent of Europe (+ Israel, some ex-Soviet republics), not the political/economic monstrosity known as the EUSSR (EU).

OMG,WTF,LOL
EU or European Union is pact. Every pact has members, Croatia isn't member of EU. Not every country in Europe is part of EU.
So, be a part of EU isn't the same thing like being in Europe! *******, what a bunch of $%%#%...
Anyway, I think, on game, that Croatia and Serbia becomes EU members on 2013.
