Hi guys

this is maybe the best tactic I've ever emulated, at least for attack performance. I won the treble and scored 165 goals only in La Liga in 1 season and around 200 goals if we include other comeptitions
Unfortunately, there is a limit of 10.000 words for each post here, sok I can't write my tactical analysis article, but I invite you to read it in my Patreon page if you want. Here I will post only the FM 24 tactic creation guide that you can also find in my Patreon page with all other tactics I emulated until now.
CRUIJFF'S BARCELONA "DREAM TEAM" ON FOOTBALL MANAGER 2024
To best emulate Cruijff's "Dream Team" in FM24, we must translate the concepts discussed in the analysis into concrete in-game instructions.
Formation and Mentality
  • Formation: 3-4-3 Diamond
  • Mentality: Positive or Attacking. To emulate Cruijff's aggressiveness, the mentality must be risk oriented. Starting with "Positive" is a good choice for most matches, increasing to "Attacking" against weaker teams or when looking for a goal.
In Possession
  • Attacking Width: Fairly Wide. The aim is to stretch the opponent's defense by exploiting the width provided by the wingers.
  • Play Out of Defence. Building play from the back was crucial to the legendary Dutch manager's tactics.
  • Pass Into Space. Look for verticality as soon as possible, exploiting the spaces that open up in the opponent's defence.
  • Shorter Passing. Crucial for maintaining possession.
  • Tempo: Slightly Lower to play with composure while maintaining possession.
  • Work Ball Into Box. Encourages attackers to enter the box before shooting.
  • Low Crosses.
Transition
  • Counter-Press. As Cruijff said, "attack is the best defence." Gegenpressing is the heart of Cruijff's Barcelona defensive phase.
  • Counter. After winning the ball back, Barcelona would launch a counterattack to surprise the opponent's defence.
  • Goalkeeper: Distribute to Centre-Backs and Take Short Kicks.
Out of Possession
  • Higher Line of Engagement. Essential for high pressing after losing the ball and for compressing the pitch.
  • Much Higher Defensive Line. Keeps the team compact with the midfield and defensive lines close together.
  • Step up More. To apply the offside trap.
  • Much More Often Pressing. Increases the intensity of the press to trouble the opponents.
  • Prevent Short Goalkeeper Distribution. To prevent the opponents from building play from the back.
  • Trap Outside. To force opponents to play away from the central areas of the pitch and the penalty box.

Roles and Individual Instructions

Player PositionRole (Duty)InstructionsNotes
Goalkeeper (Andoni Zubizarreta)Sweeper Keeper (Support)NoneAlthough not particularly skilled with the ball, Cruijff asked his keeper to start the play.

Support for Bakero, Attack for the more offensive Laudrup. Chosen over a Shadow Striker to allow for more personal instructions and replicate the movements Cruijff demanded.
Left Winger (Hristo Stoichkov)Inside Forward (Support)Roam From Position, Stay Wider, Tackle Harder, Close Down MoreA centre-forward adapted to the wing, a true goalscorer.
Right Winger (Goikoetxea)Inside Forward (Support)Roam From Position, Stay Wider, Tackle Harder, Close Down MoreBoth wingers started wide in the build-up but moved inside as the action progressed to create numerical superiority near the box.
Centre Forward (Romário)Advanced Forward (Attack)Roam From PositionAlthough not a False Nine, Romário moved extensively both inside and outside the box, creating space for teammates' runs.
