David Villa not scoring

I use Pep Guardiola's tactic and have had great success, however, while Messi has scored 27 and assisted 6 in 17 games, Villa has only scored 5 with 10 assists. I play Villa as a Deep Lying Forward support switching with Messi Inside Forward attack right winger. He has had about 100 shots (half of that of Messi) and only gets 40% on target. I don't want to feel like I don't need him so how do I get him to score more?

is he alone up top? Maybe try trequartista or poacher.. He got + 40 goals a season for me as a poacher (but i played two strikers)
