Given that counter-attacking is more effective on FM16, creating a Mourinho-style defense-first approach should be relatively simple for Chelsea. Chelsea have great individual quality, so I would keep it simple in terms of shape and TIs and look to mold the tactic a bit using roles.

A simple 4-1-4-1 counter can be very very effective. I can't check the game right now to see if Hazard and Pedro can do well in the ML and MR roles rather than AML and AML. If they can't, the shape could be adapted but pushing those two further forward compromises the defensive solidity.

So I would suggest:

Fluid
Counter

GK

FB-S CB-D CB-D FB-S

AM

W-S BBM AP-S W-S

DF

The roles would just need to be tweaked. Playing Rahman might be better as a WB-S, and both Pedro and Hazard might do better with different roles. If you are using more rounded players there, then Wide Midfielder can help defensively.

Sucks that you can say a certain way of play is the most effective in FM... Should be like in real life, many different approaches can be effective if used right :/

That wasn't my statement or intent. Playing in an attacking manner can be effective if set up properly. Counterattacking is more effective in FM16 than in previous versions, which means that its more viable as a fundamental approach, and it also means that managers using an overly attacking approach will be susceptible to being countered. I was suggesting it not necessarily because it has become more effective, but rather because its similar to how Chelsea are set up to play under Mourinho. It doesn't fit he personnel perfectly - as I mentioned, some of the attacking players might be blunted a bit. But playing a more possession-based or attacking style doesn't fit the defensive personnel ideally, either.

A manager can play any way they want. But you have to take the skills of your players into account, or it won't function as effectively. In some cases, it won't function at all.
