I'm generally getting my team to defend well, but have just played 2 legs against a team with quick strikers and got ripped apart. I tried all kinds of combinations with my CBs but time after time they threaded the ball through the middle and my CBs totally lost the forward.

Any advice?

P.S. I find this even more frustrating as I have quick forwards but can never get them to do this.

Hope this helps

Have you tried having a very deep line and also playing an Anchorman with limited attacking options? You could also try having one of your defenders (fastest) as limited defender and cover. Also try tight marking to never. This way you CB's should keep their shape and not be turned or allow the striker to run past them.

I usually play with 2 defensive midfielders just in front of the defence, but one got injured and the other is more of a deep-lying midfielder, this might be were things went wrong. I also tried having my CBs set to 'tight marking' or 'closing down' on always. I also had one CB set to cover and the other to stopper, but I will now try your tactics.

Thanks

Tight marking is where it could be going wrong. Hope it helps.

I tried your settings in a game against 2 fast strikers. I conceded 2 goals in the first 10 minutes, but neither were from getting behind my defence. Since then I haven't come up against a team with fast strikers, but am still not looking great at the back. What settings would you recommend for playing against a team with 1 fast striker and 1 tall strong, slow striker?

I play one of your defenders to man mark the tall stirker, and the other as cover.

That's what I tried. I managed to keep the tall striker quiet, but the fast striker was allowed to run at my defence from quite far out and banged one in from the edge of the box, no one closed him down. That was the only goal I conceded though.

Maybe try and have one of you midfields pick him up, or play a quick centre back who might not be as good as your other defenders.
Otherswise conceding 1 goal is not that bad.

I know, I think the other problem I have is my strikers aren't scoring enough goals, so even if I'm conceding just the one goal it usually means I end up drawing or losing. My strikers are getting enough chances but not taking them. I'm also struggling to get any decent performances out of Van Der Vaart, he's averaging about 6.5 per game. I usually have him set to attacking midfielder-attacking, but have tried advanced playmaker-support but no better.
