JUST IN TIME FOR THE EUROS!!!!!!

Wanted to replicate the tactic from the Euro 92 final, in which Denmark beat the favourites from Germany 2-0

The danish lineup was

GK(defend) Schmeichel - The Manchester United keeper. No words needed!

Libero/sweeper - Lars Olsen. In the final he played as a more defensive libero, but against lesser teams, he would drift into the deep midfield and act as a cover. In my tactic he plays as a libero on support. Had a fine career for teams like Brondby IF, Trabzonspor and Seraing.

DCR - (limited defender) - Torben Piechnik. A simple stopper set to man mark the opponent. He played most of his career in Denmark, but had a brief spell at Liverpool after the Euros.

DCL - (Limited defender) - Kent Nielsen. A solid defender who played for Aston Villa when he was at his best.

WBR - (Wingback on attack duty) - John Sivebæk. A wingback type who played for big european clubs like Man Utd, Monaco and St. Etienne. He also represented Pescara for two seasons before finishing his career with Vejle BK in Denmark. He was fast, and had a good technique.

WBL - (Inverted Wingback) - Kim Christofte. A versatile defender who normally played as CB or a libero or on the defensive midfield. He was a good passer and had a very good technique. Played left wingback because Henrik Andersen got injured in the semis against Holland. Christofte played for teams like Brondby IF and FC Köln.

MCR - (Box to box midfield) - Kim Vilfort. A national hero as he scored in the final. A real box to box midfielder in every way. Played most of his career in Brondby IF but also represented Lille in France.

MC - (Ball winning midfielder) - John "Faxe" Jensen. He also scored in the final, though he never scores! A hard tackling midfielder who is well known for his spell at Arsenal, where he became kind of a cult figure. He also played for clubs like Brondby IF and HSV Hamburg.

MCL - (Central midfielder on attack) - Henrik "Store" Larsen. The danish top goalscorer in the Euros. A hardworking midfielder who had the abilty to drift forward almost as a shadow striker. Played for Pisa in Italy and was also at Mannheim in the 2.bundesliga as well as representing Lyngby and FC Copenhagen.

STR - (Trequartista) - Brian Laudrup. The creative force on team. He really had everything. He could dribble, pass, run and was almost as techically gifted as his older brother Michael Laudrup. Brian played for clubs like Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Glasgow Rangers and Chelsea. He was a family man and felt most at home in Scotland.

STL - (Defensive striker on support) - Flemming Povlsen. A tireless forward who worked for the team. He had a great career in Dortmund, but came through the ranks at Real Madrid B. He also played for PSV and FC Köln.

Team national coach Richard "Ricardo" Møller Nielsen played a 3-5-2/5-3-1-1 tactic which i tried to replicate. The team played a cautious counter attacking style with a little more passing than the typical "knock the ball forward" kind of counter attack. This I tried to manifest in the team instructions, as well as making the PIs as close to what kind of players was playing in the final. Hope it makes sense.

If you play the matches then have your DCR man mark the striker he plays up against and the same goes for the DCL. If the opponent only plays with one striker then have your DCL man mark him. It makes the tactic even better and also is more realistic as Denmark man marked Klinsmann and Riedle in the final.

The games were played in holiday mode, so it can perform better.

PS. The defensive striker role could need some tweaking or changed to another role, but I guess it wont be as close to the original tactic then. Maybe a deep lying striker could be realistic enough as well.

Kim Christofte was Left footed. He took the finale penalty against Holland with his Left :) Other than that i think the Roles seems okay. Im not sure about Henrik Larsens Role, but i dont know what else i would choose :)

You're right. My bad! He was left footed. Then maybe the inverted wingback could be changed to a wingback on support duty, but Christofte played the wingback more like a defensive midfielder. Have to think about it.
Henrik Larsen could also be a box to box midfielder, but he did score 3 goals in the euros, so I made him a little more offensive than the MCR Box to box midfielder(Vilfort). The shadow striker role was too offensive for the way he played i think, as well.

For NOSTALGIA the German lineup was

Illgner
Buchwald
Kohler
Helmer
Reuter
Brehme
Sammer
Effenberg
Hässler
Riedle
Klinsmann

Subs were Doll and Thom.

Ronaldo 58 goals in 55 games... wow :)) i think juventus should suit it good! Maybe ill test it!

Sounds like a plan. I think Juventus would be perfect for this kind of tactic. Afterall this tactic was the "Danish Catenaccio" ;)

Nice trip back to 1992, was 12 yo back then, when we(Denmark) won EC :)

Thanks. Same for me. I was 11. I was in southern germany at that time and the manager of the hotel was soooo happy when we beat Holland, and figured we were a walk over. The day after the final he was looking at me as if I was the Devil's own son. :D Nice memories...and it happened without Michael Laudrup and Jan Mølby. Crazy.
