Desperately need advice/tips on how not to concede so many goals on FM14.

Has anyone got any good, solid tips and advice on how to not concede so many goals on FM14? I have honestly tried everything humanely possible but it just isn't happening for me. The common goals that i concede are from wingers dribbling to the byline, putting in a cross and one of their strikers tapping it in. It's extremely easy for them to score. I have tried tight marking, dropping deeper, having my defence playing very defensive, you name it, i have tried it. I also have put hassle and close down more on team and player instructions, however none of my players do so, they just stand off them and give them all the space in the world. Iv'e played all the philosophies, and still i leak like crazy. I can't do a thing. It seems as though tight marking just doesn't work in the ME. Even when i play a defensive strategy with a rigid philosophy and set all my defenders to 'Defend' they just do what they want and the opposition just score at will. I can't play it at the minute, it's literally unplayable.

What team are you playing as, if you're in a lower league its not uncommon for your team to concede many goals, having done the pentagon challenge, I can vouch for this personally.

However if you're in a higher league, I would seriously look at your defence and try to strengthen it in the transfer window.

Try playing with 3 CDs. I found with my Deeping Rangers save that playing the numbers game is the best defence. The 3 CDs should squeeze and smother out strikers, and increase the number of crosses they intercept.

Use a CDM to patrol out in front the CDs so the defenders don't get pulled away from the defence and leave holes.

If you play with wingers and the fullbacks are putting a lot of crosses in, ask the wingers to man-mark them.
