Difference between "World Player of the Year" and "Golden Ball"

So I was wondering what does it take to win each of them? The reason I want to know that is tha I am managing Barcelona and Messi won 4/5 Golden Balls but not a single World Player of the Year.

i think that WPOTY is owned by FIFA. not sure for golden ball

i think the difference is that one of the award is voted by international manager the world player I guess and the other one is based on avg rating goals assts and stuff like that trophies may count as well

on fm it's stupid, as world player of the year isn't even a thing no more it was merged with to Ballon d'or in 2010.


I could be very very wrong but I think it's true?
