DIRECT CONNECTION WITH NETWORK GAME

Hi everybody,sorry if this is the wrong section first of all.A friend of mine is going to play a network game but says he can only use "a direct connection" instead of hamachi or summit

I have no idea what he's on about,anybody know:S
