do you need skill to play this game

I think it's tactical knowledge, And knowing how a team plays in real life can help.

Also, Player knowledge can also help ^^)
 
Yep, you need to know football to be successful, it isn't just some game you buy, play a bit and then get really good at it. If you're not following football you will fail. I think most people here watch at least one match a week.
 
It depends how you play it, if you make your own tactis then yes.

If you just download Mr Hough's tactic, then no.
 
A small ammount of luck but mostly knowledge of worldwide football with one or two tactical tricks.
 
Well if your just downloading everyone else's created tactics and training schedules, player shortlists etc it is pretty easy. I'm not saying it is wrong but it is far more of a challenge to try to everything yourself. My mate plays it and doesn't have much clue about tactics etc. He fails a bit, I mean he didn't even know how to scout players when I was in his the other day. You definately need at least a basic knowledge of world football and it helps if you know how the game works.
 
Ive played nearly every single version of FM and I have a season ticket with Sheffield Wednesday unfortunately, I just wanted your views that's all (A)
 
When it comes to FM, always give any tactical ideas and thoughts a go tbh, i've did it quite often and sometimes it works a treat others fail, but tbh it gives the game a sence of enjoyment.

I agree with you but even if you have good knowledge about tactics and football in general this can still be a very difficult game to master if you´re gonna create your own succesful tactic, training schedule etc.
I´ve tried many different schedules and tactics and had some succes but I feel that I don´t have the time to really focus on those things so I downloaded others but add my own touch.

That. I don't have the time to bother with creating tactics/trainings et al every year for the game. I'm not entirely convinced that having good knowledge of football will result in you making good tactics though, especially when some of the best tactics for Football Manager would usually fail in the real world (i.e. the no-defenders tactic or even Mr Hough's which is filled with some noticable defensive errors that the CPU and match engine can't exploit very well if at all...)
