I found a great article on the River Plate team of the 1940's that (apparently) was one of the best ever and were the first to play total football: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/blog.php?b=2880 It seems that in the FM series it's not advanced enough to the point where you can have players constantly switching roles with each other and covering for each other (like Barca does so successfully), but maybe it's worth a shot?
I don't know enough about football or FM to do it well, but does anyone with time and a lot of Football Manager skills/knowledge want to try and put this into the game and make it work and upload it as a downloadable tactic? It seems to be a sort of 3-2-5 and I'm sure it requires a very unique set of players. Nonetheless, it seems like a very interesting tactic and worthwhile to people that want to try something new and different.
