Does managing your youth team help?

I managed my youth team for a few seasons, as Man Utd in CM4 - mainly because I wanted to mentor Rooney. I haven't done it since, but I was wondering if there are any advantages to managing them rather than leaving a coach or the assistant manager to do it? I'm sure I could win more games.

Also, any of your experiences with managing the youth team?

id love to have a network game where a buddy manages my youth team, but for me its to many games to play to get a season over Cant see it being any help except you get to pick who plays which in turn affects the rate of their growth.

its useful when you want to give some special 15 or 16 year-olds playing time. But it is very time consuming
