I've just started a new game but I unchecked the "Use real players" option in the startup screen - assuming everybody would be a regen......but.....I'm starting with Liverpool, one of my players is identical to Gerrard, one is identical to Carragher

and

i've just got a message saying the new England captain is my Gerrard clone who is replacing a Chelsea c/b who is fantastic at tackling, slow and injury prone - sound familiar? - but spainish (!) and the old vice captain is a man u c/b with plenty of pace an good on the ball - Rio? - but german (!)

so my point is this, does the database make new regens and all this is coincidence and bugs or does it just re-name existing players which would allow me to find messi/torres/ronaldo etc under their new names?

ye most of are basically the exact same just different names, you get one or two new players who are pretty average, the players even have same caps and career stats.

ive tried it before and it frustrated me greatly. everything seems very coincidental but theres just enough changed about the player to say hes not an exact copy. ie change of nationality, or sometimes theres a difference in type of ability, eg pace swapped for strength but no overall change of CA's/PA's

i found its not as fun as when you get to the stage of the game when all of the start players have retired and its all regens.

yh i agree....but its quite nice when you discover a made up guy(who no one who turns out to be awsome!!
