editing a player to get the exact attributes

hello all

I edited a few players, but when I started a new game their attributes weren't exactly what I edited them too, does anyone know how to get them exactly how you edited them to? is it setting the player ability and player potential to a certain number?

you also need to change current ability and potential ability to make this player as you want.
