First off i want to say hello to everybody on this great FM forum, i've been reading it for some time, but it's my first post. I'm sorry for my English, but it's not my primary language...

Ok now to the topic. I have some dilemma about how to play two strikers up front in for example 4-4-2 formation. I've read TT&F document, i know it quite well and i follow it in my all games. From what i understand, i must have deeper lying forward (fcd), who should be strong, quite creative type of player and advanced forward (fca) who is good, guick dribbler with good finishing. Fcd should have lower mentality, he should have ball holding enabled and pass often to other players. Fca on the other hand is operating higher on the pitch, has a lot more creative freedom, free role enabled. So for example i have in my team robinho and cardozo, so i play cardozo as fcd (strong, quite good creativity, brilliant long shoots) and robinho as fca (obvious). And that's what i've always been doing. Overall i can't complain, because i ended 3rd in league with man city after first season, but strikers weren't exactly working together. For first part of season robinho scored 23, he had average rating of something about 7.5, while cardozo scored 4, and was playing awful. I didn't then change my tactic a bit and at the end of the season cardozo ended scoring 31 goals (27 only in second part !) and robinho became worst player in my team, he scored overall 26 goals... So when one was on fire, the second one was useless, they both had very few assists.

Lately i've started using 4-2-3-1 (2CM, 1AMC, 1 AML, 1AMR) tactic, played only few pre-season matches, but so far it's looking good, very good. AMC is like previous fca, and striker is fcd. I know that opponents in friendly's aren't good, but now cardozo and robinho are playing very good together, both are scoring in every match, i hope they will continue this in league.

However yesterday i've been reading topics about target man and found interesting statement. It's in this topic http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f60/keirrison-help-t11781.html and it's post number 4 written by Gatid. I've read some of his saying's and i see he has good knowledge about this game. Also i checked TT&F wizard which comes with document and now i'm completely confused. They say that tall, strong player (fcd) should have higher mentality, and free role ticked, while fca should have lower mentality.

Now who is right then? Personally when i think about it, fcd operating higher, and passing/flicking ball to deeper playing fca who has more forward runs, who is faster and can dribble few opponents makes more sense to me than playing fca on higher mentality, so fcd has to do "dirty job" even if he is not as high technically skilled. So is TT&F wrong about that?

I hope you understand what i i've been writing about :P.

My personal preference is to have a FC and a ST as my strike partnership, I play my FC in the FCd role, assigning him a free role with high creativity to link up the play and create the chances for my ST who is playing in the FCa role, who I set as my target man, now depending on the type of ST i have depends on how I use him, if he's small and quick I set target man supply to "run onto ball" if he's slow and good in the air I set supply "to head", stong but poor in air then it's "to feet" and hold up ball, and if he's good all round then just leave it set to mixed... but don't forget to alter the player instructions accordingly as to what role you expect him to do!

Hope this helps?

Yea, that's what i'm gonna try now, i would try to play robinho on lower mentality with lot forward runs, lot creativity and free role, cardozo on higher ment. with supply to head, cause he ideal for this role. Hope it would help, thx for answer!

The TT&F is a guide. It's for you to play around with. You can have a deep-lying target man or a target man up top. Both can work depending on the players you have. You can have the players switching in the match between being up top and being deep (swap position I think it's called in the player instructions) - I do this all the time. This helps partnerships where both players have something to offer in both roles.
