Breaking News - Arsene Wenger hired as new AS Nancy Lorraine Manager

It was shocks all around at the Stade Marcel Picot, home of AS Nancy Lorraine the French Ligue 1 side where formerly managerless following the untimely death of their former manager. While there was no clue to who would take up the helm at AS Nancy, the rumours where they where looking for an experienced hand so the appointment of Rookie manager Wenger may come as a shock and dissapointment to many fans of the club, the board will be hoping Mr Wenger can deliver the results.

Pre-Season Positives for Wenger and Co.

Despite only playing 2 games in the pre-season under Wenger AS Nancy Lorraine look to be in fine form this season and if they continue playing like they have they will surely survive the season in Ligue 1 despite many tipping them to be relegated.

AS Nancy Lorraine 3 - 0 AS Nancy Lorraine Reserves

AS Nancy Lorraine 1 - 2 FC Porto

In an interview prior to the defeat to Porto Mr Wenger was asked:

"Mr Wenger, do you see this as a risky move, organising a Pre-Season match against a team with such a large reputation compared to your teams considerably smaller one."

To this Wenger replied:

"Not at all Sir, we are well prepared and if the boys cant step up to new levels then what am I, as manager supposed to do, it is my job to motivate the players and spur them on to get results against teams like Porto, not just to let them walk all over us."

Mr Wenger certainly showed his team where no pushovers with AS Nancy holding a 1-0 lead at the break, a brace from Hulk however saved Porto.

AS Nancy Lorraine Impressive Start under Wenger

Valenciennes FC 2 - 2 AS Nancy Lorraine
Bakar(2)

AS Nancy Lorraine 1 - 1 AS Monaco
Alo'o Efoulo

Le MansUC 72 1 - 1 AS Nancy Lorraine
Berenguer

Olympique Lyonnais 3 - 3 AS Nancy Lorraine
Bakar(2), Loties

So a seemingly solid start to the season for Mr Wenger, he will feel agreived following the late equaliser VS Lyon especially since the referee seemed biased towards the hosts and in the end it was the extra time all the 'fouling' produced that killed Nancy's hopes of a shock win, but a good point none the less.

After the first month Wenger has clocked up 4 points for Nancy, leaving them 4 clear of the drop zone.

Djamel Bakar

The 20 year-old Striker has been in fine form so far Scoring 4 goals in 4 appearances is proving to be a top asset to the Nancy squad. (Stats shown in attatchment below)

EDIT:

2 Points to make
