Chapter 1: (Another) New Beginning
I don't quite know what it is about FM23, but I have just failed to truly get into my saves this year. Some last a season, some last a month, and with others I lose interest before I've even played the first match. I know I should just stick with it sometimes and eventually it will become more enjoyable, but I've decided to, yet again, start fresh after my attempt at managing Juventus never really got off the ground.
Perhaps it could be considered an odd decision that my new club of choice is Everton, considering the fact that I'm looking for enjoyment and Everton have provided very little of that over the past two seasons. The constant question used to be asked of Everton if they could finally break the Top 6 mould, but in the subsequent years they've fallen considerably and find themselves well in the midst of a relegation battle.
After moving on from Frank Lampard, the club in real life turned to familiar Premier League face Sean Dyche, who had done an excellent job for many seasons with Burnley. However, much like I did with Juventus, I decided it would be interesting to appoint a club legend.
Leighton Baines racked up over a decade in an Everton shirt, playing for the club all the way from 2007 to 2021. He consistently was one of the better left-backs in the league and made the England setup throughout his career. In real life, he's the club's U-18's boss, but I've decided he's up for a much bigger job and made him the full time manager. He comes in as the youngest boss in the Premier League this campaign, with 3rd choice goalkeeper Andy Longeran actually being a year older than him.
It is yet another new save, but hopefully this time, I can keep it going for longer than a few introductory posts.
