External Hard Drive PS3

I want to add a 2Tb external hard drive to my PS3. I understand that I have to format the drive to FAT32 before PS3 will be able to use it.

I have formatted it but when I plug the drive into the PS3 literally nothing happens on screen. Just will not find it.

Can anybody help me out with this?
