Falling attributes after pre-season break.

Okay I've just started my 3rd season. Last season I signed Gignac who had a poor start to the season but then was in excellent form in the latter stages. Anyways he's come back to pre-season and all his important attributes have fell dramatically.

Why is this?
Is it a regular occurrence?
Will he regain these stats?

because you lose some ca over close season, particularly when you have been at the top of your game at end of the season
