Fifa launches bribery inquiry over claims against Bin Hammam, Warner | Football | guardian.co.uk

Fifa have opened an investigation into the conduct of four officials – including vice-president Jack Warner and presidential candidate Mohamed Bin Hammam – in relation to bribery allegations made by executive committee member Chuck Blazer.

Blazer, who is the general secretary of the Concacaf federation, has alleged that violations were committed under the Fifa code of ethics during a meeting organised by Bin Hammam and Warner in relation to the Fifa presidential election, which takes place on 1 June.

Bin Hammam is the president of the Asian Football Confederation and is running against Sepp Blatter to be the new president of the sport's world governing body.

A Fifa statement read: "On 24 May, 2011, Fifa executive committee member and Concacaf general secretary Chuck Blazer reported to Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke possible violations of the Fifa code of ethics allegedly committed by officials.

"In particular, the report referred to a special meeting of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), apparently organised jointly by Fifa vice-president Jack A. Warner and Fifa executive committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam, which took place on 10-11 May 2011. This meeting was linked to the upcoming Fifa presidential election.

"In view of the facts alleged in this report, which include bribery allegations, Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke, in compliance with art. 16 of the Fifa code of ethics, yesterday requested the Fifa ethics committee open ethics proceedings."

Bin Hammam and Warner, along with CFU officials Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester, have been invited to be in position by Friday to attend a hearing in Zurich on Sunday.

The chairman of the ethics committee, Claudio Sulser, will not oversee the proceedings because he shares Swiss nationality with Bin Hammam's presidential rival Blatter, and this could be construed as a conflict of interests.

The meeting will instead be chaired by the committee's deputy chairman Petrus Damaseb of Namibia.

Not that they're going to spot the most obvious corruption possible but at least it shows some intent...

hmmm...wonder how much someone will pocket to keep things quiet. Or........nothing will happen. Only reason doing it, is make themselves look good by pretending to do something and saving face. Nothing will be done whatsoever.

How convenient that this will pretty much guarantee Blatter another term as FIFA president... Not that he's been threatened by Bin Hammam much anyway.

interesting the two people investigated are Blatter's closest rivals for presidency

Fifa opens ethics proceedings against Sepp Blatter
• Fifa president to be investigated by his own organisation
• Move follows Mohamed Bin Hammam's demands

Fifa opens ethics proceedings against Sepp Blatter | Football | guardian.co.uk

Fifa have opened ethics proceedings against their own president, Sepp Blatter, in a move which will add to the air of turmoil surrounding the organisation as it prepares for its presidential election, scheduled for next week.

The move follows demands yesterday by Mohamed Bin Hammam, Blatter's only rival in the presidential elections and already the subject of a separate investigation, that the 75-year-old Swiss should be put under similar scrutiny.

Fifa's statement reads as follows: "On 26 May 2011, Fifa Executive Committee member Mohamed bin Hammam has requested the Fifa Ethics Committee to open ethics proceedings against Fifa President Joseph S Blatter on the basis that, in the report submitted by Fifa Executive Committee member Chuck Blazer earlier this week, Fifa Vice-President Jack A Warner would have informed the Fifa President in advance about alleged cash payments to delegations attending a special meeting of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) apparently organised jointly by Jack A Warner and Mohamed bin Hammam on 10 and 11 May 2011 and that the Fifa President would have had no issue with these.

"Subsequently, the Fifa Ethics Committee today opened a procedure against the Fifa President in compliance with art. 16 of the Fifa Code of Ethics.

"Joseph S Blatter has been invited to take position by 28 May 2011, 11am CET and to attend a hearing by the Fifa Ethics Committee at the Home of Fifa (Zurich) on 29 May 2011.

"No additional comments will be made by Fifa until further notice."

The whole bribery thing is being investigated by FIFA so obviously they won't find anything...when can we get an independent organization to do this stuff.

this. So pointless FIFA doing it themselves! This solves nothing!

Fifa they are so funny, trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, it's very simple what should happen to this so called corrupt orginisation, get rid of the lot of them and start a new fresh one with people who's only intrest's are football orientated and not filling there back pocket full of cash and bribes.

Nothing will change at fifa until this has happened, and we in England will never see the world cup here, unless we pay there asking price to host it, and that,s the reality of the current situation as it stands now.

As for there own investigation, well they make lots of noise's but in the end will come back saying they have found nothing, trying to appear all clean and trying to restore fifa's damaged image but it will still be there in the background going on as usual.

maybe if we use some of the MP's who got done in the expenses scandal, as reps for FIFA, we may stand a greater chance of getting the World Cup. They wouldn't mind receiving a few brown envelopes I guarantee

I wonder who will be the scape goat in all of this? Surely Fifa will have to find someone to blame in order to avoid an independent investigation?

By the way, Chuck Blazer is a well cool name (H)

I like their logic. I'll kill Sepp Blatter and then prosecute myself.

Breaking news-Hammam has just withdrawn from election race. Blatter is only candidate as it stands

Fifa's a sick joke now, corrupt and a election where theres only one candidate who happens to be already in the job the election is for in the first place, Fifa believes this harms football by investigateing them, well fifa need to wake up because football is bigger than them and will always survive who ever or what ever orginisation looks after it, the problems the football world has is not with football but the orginisation set up to stop corruption that turns out, it's members are corrupt lol.

Well, I saw the Bladder press conference after the "election" result, and I just couldn't bear to watch it. Wanted to either projectile vomit or put my foot through the tv. So many "promises", so many...well as before. Empty promises.
But what is really ******* me off intently, is a few people phoning up Talksport, saying that England is just bitter that we didn't get the World Cup, and that is why we are trying to cause all this trouble, and should move on. Well, here's whats what from my perspective.
It has been proven (along with photographic evidence apparently), that money indeed changed hands with regards to the World Cup bid. Fact.
FIFA supplied tickets for the last World Cup for touts via their own back pockets. Fact.
FIFA does absolutely nothing, and i mean NOTHING for football. Except use newly designed footballs for a World Cup. Fact.
If FIFA did care about football, old Septic wouldn't come out with things such as smaller shorts for female officials, and would concentrate instead on goal line technology, which would immensly help out footballing decisions world wide (but thats imo). Fact.

But hears also a fact. I'm not unhappy that Russia won the right to stage a World Cup tournament. It was done on a level playing field. So well done to them. The reason myself, and other football fans (and not just England fans) are bitter and so ****** off with is the fact, that Qatar got the world cup-with immoral means (which are now becomingly increasingly evident). And it also a FACT that it was NOT England who started all this. So when I hear people bleating on about "o England fans are just bitter", or "England are so arrogant they think they deserve the World Cup", I say to them, get it through to your thick, neandarthal skull, it's not the fact we lost, it's the way it was done. And it's not just us who are unhappy either, it's also the US, Holland, for example. So get your facts right before coming out with that ****. If they did a film about FIFA, they would call it "How FIFA Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Bribery instead of Football".
When I hear the absolute (and pardon my french) bollocks like "it will financially benefit Qatar", I just think to myself....since when the **** does Qatar need financial help staging a World Cup tournament? And what, by the way, does Qatar exactly offer the footballing world? Go on, tell me. Thats right. Sod all. Sweet...sod...all. And they obviously couldn't give a stuff about the players safety. The solution for the heat was.......artificial clouds. Yes, thats right. Fake clouds.

Qatar hopes 'artificial clouds' at World Cup can ease heat concerns | Football | guardian.co.uk

Qatar, as a Islamic state, has strict rules regarding the consumption of alcohol. Qatar is in the Middle East and has a defence pact with Iran. That is, it’s not in the most stable part of the world. The issue is security and the tournaments proximity to dangerous situations. Qatar’s size. The country will be by far the smallest to have ever hosted a World Cup. Considering that 3.5 million people attended South Africa 2010, and Qatar’s population is just 1.7 million, this is a problem. Right now, Qatar doesn’t have the infrastructure to even take the fans, let alone host games. The stadiums that have to be built. After the tournament the country won’t have any need for them.

And who remembers when that smug ******* Blatter, called Northern Ireland little England? Politics not involved in FIFA? Utter *****. They HATE our style of football, and hate the fact our leagues are the most successful. It's been openly admitted. If they did a film about FIFA, they would call it "How FIFA Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Bribery instead of Football".
If people think that England fans, are just bitter about losing the bid, they are either being wind-up merchants, or are not real football fans. Because REAL football fans, like myself, and many others on this forum, and all over the world, actually care about what FIFA is doing to destroy the beautiful game that is (or could soon to be "was") football. So stop being blind to the fact FIFA is giving football a slow, painful death. We're not bitter. Your just blind to the obvious.

They don't care about me, you are anybody. They only care, about who puts what amount in their pockets. Nothing more. The sooner people realise this, and stop using all this as a reason to attack us for being bitter...the better.

Agree with alt's post other than the bit about them hating the English, I think that's overplayed a bit, but yes, they're a bunch of money-grubbing whores. And you didn't mention the worst part about Qatar: that it's going to be 50 ******* degrees there in the summer. Even IF the stadiums are air-conditioned and don't cause the players to die (and what about the training fields), what the **** are the fans supposed to do there? The only thing they can do is sit in their overpriced hotels and surf the internet. There is absolutely NOTHING to do in Qatar. Nothing. My friend lived in the UAE for two years and apparently the UAE is pretty cool with lots of touristy stuff to do (indoor ski mountain, etc.) but he said Qatar is literally a shithole. It's dirt and nothing more. There would literally be nothing to do for us, especially considering the fact that it's an Islamic country and we could only drink in designated areas and there would be no girls there. I had such an awesome time at the World Cup in Germany and that's because it's actually a great place to visist. They need to think of the fans and they're not.

The only possible reason for hosting the World Cup in Qatar is to "grow the game there;" well they're moving all of the stadiums away to third world countries right afterwards anyway so what's the point, they're growing nothing there. And for the first time ever the giving the World Cup to a host that's never qualified for the World Cup before or even gotten close! They're going to lose all of their group games and it'll be an embarassment. I'll root against them that's for sure. Russia getting the bid for 2018 isn't the best choice but it's not a horrible choice, but the 2022 one was an absolute joke. As an American I'm outraged that we didn't get it even though our bid was probably the best World Cup bid in history and had everyone behind it. If it went to Australia, I would have been happy for them and would have understood the decision (because we hosted one so recently) and gladly would have gone there for the World Cup. But Qatar? It's a ******* disgrace.
