Hi all,

I thought I would share my career on FM to date (If there is a better place to put this please let me know).

So, I created this weird scenario where every team in the world had a transfer embargo until 2100 and I also had the English divisions running down to the 12 tier.

I took over a tier 9 team, Canterbury City, and in the first season things actually accelerated quicker than I expected. I finished runners up in the league and got promoted. I had a nice cup run to the quarters of the FA Vase, got to the semil or the regional tier 10/9 cup and made the second round qualifying in the FA cup, which meant I had won four games in the FA cup in total. With the money I made, I was able to make a small upgrade to Junior coaching and youth recruitment but this still remains at a very poor level.

Season two was much more challenging. With very poor youth recruitment and no opportunities to sign players, I had to mostly rely on last season's team with one or two youth players that were just about ready for the first team. We bombed out of all cups early, and were 1-0-4 early on. However, the situation stabilized and we ended up comfortably mid table. There was a terrible run mid season that threatened to haul us back into the relegation zone, but a smattering of wins in the last 10 games kept us comfortably above water. We finished on 45 points and 15th place. Relegated 17th place finished on 38 points.

Season three started much better. Again, money was very tight and the board had refused to improve any youth coaching for two years now. We started off strong, winning four of our first five games. We had a decent FA cup run to the First Round of qualifying and a great cup run in the FA Trophy to the fifth round. Unfortunately, the strong start to the league fizzled out quickly and we went ten without winning. It took all season to secure our place in the league as 17 ended up going down on 45 points! We actually had a late string of wins and finished 7th and just two outside of the playoffs, even though we only avoided relegation a couple of weeks earlier.

Right now I have just started season four. Again no improvements to youth coaching or youth recruitment. After five games we are second with a 5-1-1 record. We are also into the second round of qualifying. So a promising start to the season. I am still relying on three "real" players that were in the squad at the start of the game, although a couple of regens have offered good contributions to the line up.

The reason I am enjoying this right now is historically, I have always found myself flying through the lower non leagues and then get stuck once we get to league 1 or the championship etc. This feels like a real non league experience, with more or less a similar core of players each year, little money, and little overall growth. The embargo thing is a little weird as Chelsea, Reading, and Darby and a team from Portugal somehow do not have the embargo active and this will cause problems no doubt down the line. I also wonder how the AI will react to teams not signing players and whether it will try harder to keep the decent players each team has. I have noticed some teams in my league have released very good players they should have kept ahold of.
