Ole makes first signings
Statement of intent
First day on the job and was thrust into a meeting with Mr. Tan, which turned out to be long a quite tedious. He outlined what the boards expectations were and the budgets for the coming season -
Minimum Expectation - Avoid Relegation
Wage budget - ?700k
Transfer budget - ?4.4m
I am happy enough with these and have decent basis to start with. Tan also informed me that I was not going to be judged on any philosophies either which freed me up to mould the team as I see fit.
Scarily, Cardiff City's best trophy won to date is the Championship title. Hopefully it won't be too long until that fact is changed. I feel that with the current squad we have a good basis to push on from, especially with players such as gary Medel and Steven Caulker in our ranks. I believe that signings-wise we just need that game changer, whether it be in the middle of the park, out on the wing or up front we will just have to see.
On signings, we have made a forray into the market and have aquired Connor Hunte on a free transfer. Conner has just recently been released by Chelsea and we are delighted to have him. Being only 16 he is definitly one for the future, but he could make a few cameo roles in the senior squad if he impresses. next was the aquisition of Jiloan Hamad, a 22 year old winger who will join in january from Swedish club Malmo FF. Lastly we forked out ?1.5m to sign 29 year old goalkeeper Carlos Kameni from Malaga. I believe we have pulled off a real coup with this guy, he adds some much needed experience having played Champions League football with Malaga. Joe Lewis has left to go to Barnsley for ?500k. Other than that, both Bellamy and Cowie have signed new contracts with the club.
We were also involved in three friendlies in the month of July, with mixed results:
CCFC 0-0
Basel
We had a staggering 25 shots to Basel's 8, but just could'nt put the ball in the net.
CCFC 2-4
Malaga
Conway and Bellamy with the goals, at the end of the day we were ultimately overpowered by Malaga's efficiency in front of goal. However, at least we found our shooting boots!
CCFC 3-0
Chievo
A very good performance by the lads as things begin to take shape, resolute at the back which prolific in front of goal. Goals coming from captain Mark Hudson, Craig Noone and Joe Mason with a peach from 25 yards.
Decent month overall, looking forward to the start of the league next time!
